Numerology and Film Names

Numbers play a role

Apparently, it's common knowledge in Bollywood - India's famed cinema capital and answer to the American Hollywood - that the ancient science of numbers (numerology) often plays a role in the names of films, and even their directors.

But, multiple websites are reporting that the trend is spreading. Numerology is now influencing Malayalam cinema as well.

Directors Joshiy and Jayaraaj have each added an extra letter to the spellings of their names. The results of this change, however, have been very different with one director producing a string of hits and the other a few flops.

Sources note that the person likely to benefit most by numerology is young director Rosshan Andrrews. The director told reporters that even the spelling of his debut film "Udayanaanu Tharam," one of the biggest hits of recent times, was suggested by a numerologist.

Now another director (by the name of Vinayan) has followed suit by adding two extra letters to the title of his new film. The new title is "Boyy Friennd" and the film is expected to rake in more collections than a mere "Boyfriend" could have mustered!
