Hollywood is the glamour capital of the world, where beautiful people are a dime a dozen. So what makes an actor - or any person - stand out among all the others? It's all about inner beauty. Some people just seem to shine from the inside out. We'll take a look at the charts of actors Meg Ryan, Uma Thurman and Reese Witherspoon - three women who have this intangible glow - to see what makes them so special.
Meg Ryan: Scorpio
Born on November 19, 1961, this leading lady is the queen of romantic comedies, having starred in such hits as Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail, where she starred opposite Tom Hanks. But it was the film When Harry Met Sally that launched her career - and launched what might be her most memorable mini-performance. Sitting in a deli across from Billy Crystal, she casually faked an escalating orgasm that prompted a woman patron to exclaim, "I'll have what she's having." The fact that Ryan has Sun, Mercury, Venus and Neptune in sexy Scorpio made her a natural for that scene.
In real life, Ryan, 47, is intensely emotional, passionate and magnetic, as is typical of Scorpio. Her Moon in Aries gives her an outgoing emotional nature and a candid but feisty persona onscreen. Her most powerful influence may be Neptune, which deeply influences both her career and love life. Neptune is conjunct her Mercury (communications and thinking) and Venus (love and artistry). This gives her an impressive imagination, an invaluable asset when acting, but also a certain naiveté about love. She was married to Dennis Quaid, an Aries, for 10 years. The couple have a son, Jack Henry, who is 16. Ryan has said that Quaid was unfaithful to her for many years, which undoubtedly led to some disillusionment on her part, the legacy of illusionary Neptune.
But Neptune also gives Ryan a compassionate soul. In January 2006, this leading lady adopted a 14-month-old girl from China. What's more, Ryan works with CARE in India, which endeavors to empower women in poor countries. Scorpio rules power, so it's a natural cause for Ryan to take on. And Neptune will ensure she'll tread the paths of art and compassion.
Uma Thurman: Taurus
Born on April 29, 1970, this 6' beauty has had a varied film career that includes starring roles in action thrillers (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill), science fiction (Gattaca) and romantic comedy (The Truth About Cats and Dogs). Her sensual persona comes from her Sun, Mercury and Saturn in earthy Taurus. Having enticing Venus as her ruler no doubt helped Thurman portray the goddess of love in 1988's The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
As a Taurus, Thurman is loyal, grounded and genuine. However, she wasn't always the confident artist. Her Sun conjuncts Saturn, the planet of limitation, which caused her to have an awkward self-image while growing up. On the positive side, Saturn has given her a strong foundation as an actor, model and film producer.
One of the most striking elements in Thurman's chart is her Moon in unconventional Aquarius. The Moon rules one's upbringing, and hers was certainly unusual. Her father is a former Tibetan Buddhist monk and a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies at Columbia University. Uma and her three brothers were given a Buddhist upbringing and spent time living in India. Thurman's mother, a model, was married to LSD guru Timothy Leary before marrying Robert Thurman. Moon in Aquarius can certainly give you an unconventional start in life.
What actor wouldn't be complete without an afflicted Neptune? Thurman has Venus and Mars in versatile, flirtatious Gemini, which are opposed by Neptune. This influence heightens her artistry but has clouded her choices in men. She has been married twice: to actor Gary Oldman for a short time, and to actor Ethan Hawke for six years. She and Hawke have two children. But like Ryan, Thurman is also attuned to people in need. Thurman is a member of the board of Room to Grow, a charitable organization providing aid to families and children born into poverty. She also serves on the board of the Tibet House, which endeavors to present Tibet's culture and spirituality to the rest of the world.
Reese Witherspoon: Aries
Born on March 22, 1976, this artsy Aries has starred in such romantic comedies as Legally Blond and Sweet Home Alabama. But it was her spot-on portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line that earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Cash was the wife of country crooner Johnny Cash and a singer and songwriter in her own right. In fact, it's interesting to note Witherspoon's astrological affinity with Cash. The actor's Mars in Cancer conjuncts Cash's Sun in Cancer - by zero degrees, giving Witherspoon a strong sense of Cash's energy. Also, Witherspoon's Saturn, the planet of karma, is in Cancer, which points to Witherspoon's destiny in portraying Cash on film.
As a Fire sign, Witherspoon, 32, is adventurous, independent and headstrong. Her Venus and Mercury in Pisces, which are ruled by Neptune, give her a sensitive side and a talent for acting. Not surprisingly, like Ryan and Thurman, her Venus is afflicted by Neptune. Witherspoon is highly idealistic - and perhaps unrealistic - when it comes to romance. She and actor Ryan Phillippe were married for seven years and have two children. Witherspoon is currently involved with Sagittarius actor Jake Gyllenhaal, a Fire sign like her. Hopefully, this time, Neptune will deepen Witherspoon's creativity and compassion without confounding her love life.
All in all, Neptunian people like Ryan, Thurman and Witherspoon are the artists and activists of society who make the world a more beautiful - and loving - place to be.
