The quotation "then let them eat cake" was attributed to Marie Antoinette, who is said to have shouted it during one of the famines that occurred in France during the reign of her husband, Louis XVI. Marie Antoinette, born on November 2, 1755 as the Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria, was the daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I -- and Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. With Scorpio as her Sun sign, she was certainly a strong and astute person -- complicated and passionate, sometimes destructive, and intolerant. She was a direct descendant of powerful European royalty, including Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castille. At the age of fourteen she was married to the future Louis XVI, and was the mother of "the lost Dauphin," Louis XVII. With Libra as a dominant sign in her birth chart, she loved to please, to charm, and to be liked. She was a champion in this capacity! Marie Antoinette is perhaps best remembered for her legendary excesses, and for her death: she was executed by guillotine at the height of the French Revolution in 1793, for the crime of treason.
