I am a Master’s student looking for summer internships but I am getting told no from everywhere. I am worried about my future career. Can you shed some light on this? Also, I broke up with my boyfriend a few months back but I’m still in love with him. He also cares for me but has moved on and will be leaving this place in another month for his new job. I want to ask you if you do see the two of us reuniting for a long-term relationship. My date of birth is July 22, 1983 and his is January 16, 1982.
Dear AK,
This is going to sound a little harsh, and for that I am sorry, but I currently seem to be at a loss of how to delicately deliver a piece of advice you most need to hear. “Deal with it.”
Life isn’t easy. Even those people who seem like they just sail through it have their own challenges and obstacles. In your case, you seem to let the challenges bring you down, and it reflects in your work and your attitude. In short, your search for internships has been sloppy and half-hearted. You may be going through the motions, but you aren’t putting forth the energy. You can do better, be better and present better. Internships are handed out because they are required and you want one. Hence, you’ll get one when you present what you have to offer.
I really don’t see a reunion for you and your man. Even though you still have feelings for him, there seems to be some residual damage from the time you shared that keeps him from wanting to open his heart fully to you. He is looking forward to his new job and life, and each day that passes pulls him further away from you.
You have what it takes to turn your world, and your life, around. However, it isn’t going to simply click into place – it is going to take some hard work and effort on your part. I know you are hurting, but sometimes the only way to release pain is to work through it. One of the best things you could do for yourself would be to enlist the aid of a counselor or therapist.
You need to look at yourself, and learn to understand that the things you are doing are feeding the negative patterns in which you feel so trapped. Things aren’t totally out of your control, but you have to be willing to take control in order to stop feeling so lost.
You have a choice. You can ask for a little help, work through some issues, and change your fate – or you can swirl around in your depression, and hope that things will improve by doing nothing.
This is important. Your future is in your hands.
Good luck!
