Planetary alignment affects all the aspects of our lives, so why wouldn’t it affect wine? According to some revolutionary winemakers, it does! That’s the reasoning behind biodynamic winemaking. Based partly on the fact that the earth and plant life have rhythms in respect to their position to the sun, moon and stars, biodynamic winemakers believe that the cosmos and constellations influence different aspects of the plant’s growth. Hence, their work in the vineyard and cellar corresponds with these rhythms. While the principles of biodynamic winemaking may seem eccentric and untraditional, the results in the bottle are converting skeptics to drinkers, according to one New York City wine critic. The hope is that by following the rhythms of nature and using only organic materials found on the vineyard, healthier plants are produced and ultimately better wines will result.
