Guide to Astrology: Lunar Nodes

Moon Over 10 years ago I stumbled across a book that dramatically shifted my perception of astrology. The book is entitled, Astrology For The Soul and was written by Jan Spiller. This book deals solely with the Lunar Nodes. There have been many books written on this particular configuration, but none with this depth and insight. I recommend that you refer to Wikipedia for a concise definition of the Lunar Nodes.

It is not important that you understand the definition of the nodes. But bear in mind that when I initially view a person’s astrological chart, I usually go straight to their node placement to see what sign and house it resides in. An astrologer will view a myriad of configurations in a natal chart, but for me the node placements are critically significant — more so than any other influence.

The way Spiller presents it is like this:
The South Node represents a habit pattern that was developed in other lifetimes. Though this quality in the personality may have served the individual’s soul in those past lives, it no longer has a spiritual benefit in the present. Like all habits, it is difficult to change, and since most of us resist change, we continue to repeat qualities that bring more misery. But the manifestation of the agreement that the soul made with Source between lives is relentless. Re-read that last line. The North Node placement clearly describes the agreement. All of the other factors in the natal chart will reveal how and when the many personality characteristics will manifest this primary agreement. It is not incorrect to view the nodal placement as a prime directive for the individual.

The universe will NOT support any decisions based on a repetition of the past habit pattern (South Node). We experience this resistance as MISERY. I often tell people, “If you push against this agreement, the universe pushes back.” However, once one commits to the North Node qualities, and it is difficult, the universe immediately responds. Why? Because one is now embracing their path, their destiny. All prosperity arises from this courageous decision. The universe has no problem letting us create more and more misery for ourselves until we CHOOSE to do it differently. My job, as I see it, is to assist others to do it differently – NOW!

Misery is very real and it damages the spirit. Happiness and prosperity is just a committed decision away. The magic of this single choice will astound you. I have been told that the truth is always simple. It does not get simpler than this.

    Hi, Miss Krystal!
Mine was, too. I think my jaw dropped when I read mine! LOL! I couldn’t believe how accurate it was.
But then again, there was nothing in there that you haven’t told me at one time or another… 😉
    Cheers,

Dear Verbena, I always look forward to your comments and words of wisdom. Would love to see more posts and articles from you! Thank you for your lovely comment about my Guardian Angels vs. Spirit Guides article from the newsletter in Oct. (Didn’t even know that happened until recently…time for a new ‘puter’ I think!) I left a post for you there a few days ago…better late than never.

Jan Spiller’s detailed explanations in Astrology of the Soul are incredibly accurate. You’ll be amazed! I recommend her book to many clients and students – she’s so spot on and well worth the purchase!
The south node placement in your chart indicates what we have brought with us into this life. It shows our talents, gifts, knowledge, wisdom, experiences and lesson learned that we have acquired over many lifetimes.
The moon’s north node is what we are aspiring to achieve in this lifetime, using the gifts of the south node to get us there!
Great info to have about yourself and others! Thank you Phillip for reminding us of such an informative read.

    Hi, Phillip!
Your explanation of nodes and what they really mean is the clearest I’ve seen (although I have not read the book that you and Miss Krystal referenced).
After reading this article, I looked at mine and what it means…I was shocked at reading the story of my life. I understand it so much more now and see what I should and shouldn’t be doing.
    Thank you!!!
    Cheers,
    Duckie 🙂

Great Article, I also use the nodes when I am doing astrology – has I refer to the Dragon head and tail – which will give me more information than the whole chart. Most people will get stuck on the south nodes because it is comfortable, like a child in first grade not wanting to move forward because they have to move out of there comfort zone. But the universe will not help you unless you push that knowledge into the head of the north nodes.

    Hi Phillip-
I agree. North Node has a lot of information. It can pinpoint issues of the soul, as far as my experience. Underlying elements that can explain so much. I think it is an area that should not be over looked. Especially, if one is trying to find their true essence/soul purpose. For myself, there was actually something “healing” in just reading about it for me.
Someone I admired shared the book you mentioned in the article, with me, years ago. It is very special to me because that person is now on the other side. Sentiment involved with this lesson.
Interesting…Liam and I were just talking about north nodes in his ongoing blog right now. So many readers do know the importance of this aspect.
Very pertinent information provided in this article. Thank you so much. I am sure a lot of people will want to explore their north node which can address some karmic destiny. I do believe north nodes address some karmic issues the soul will face in this life, as well as the past life. Fabulous!
    Thanks a million-
    Miss Krystal

    Hi Phillip,
You did my chart, and I was happily surprised at the accuracy. ( I have to dig it out to look at my node placement).
You are a top flight astrologer, but having extensive knowledge of astronomy too, is an added bonus, no doubt.
Keep the articles on astrology coming….I love to read them.
