Sex Toy Sales to Rival Smart Phone Sales

Apparently, women feel that keeping that keeping in touch with themselves is as important as keeping in touch with others—in a surprising revelation, sales of sex toys for women are expected to soon equal or surpass the sales of smart phones, at 400 million sex toys a year sold globally within the next ten years.

Researchers believe that part of what’s driving the trend is the candidness of celebrities about how much they love sex toys and porn—Cameron Diaz, for instance, who recently told Jimmy Kimmel that she’s a fan of watching porn films when staying in hotel rooms.

Sales of sex toys are set to rival the smartphone thanks to celebrities who discuss their sex lives openly in interviews. Research has found that in the next ten years, the number of ‘pleasure goods’ will increase to 400 million globally.

Cameron Diaz recently told U.S. chatshow host Jimmy Kimmel that she loved adult movies. She said: “‘I love porn! You know what I love about hotels? How discreet they are. ‘They always give you that little thing at the bottom – ”Your room will be charged the same as any other room, no titles will be used.'”

The study entitled Women, Sex and Shopping also found a high proportion of British women – more than 40 per cent – use online pornography.

It is thought that department stores will soon sell ‘pleasure goods’ alongside lingerie, while designer brands and even jewelry chains could make products.

The report, by respected analysts Hewson Group, said sales of sex toys has been held back in the past due to an association with the sleazy, male-dominated pornography industry. However there has been a revolution over the past 30 years, driven by the fact women have a more powerful position in the home and workplace. The study suggested that high-earners would be prepared to spend £200 a year on these items.
