Keeping Love Alive in Tough Times

Guarding the Flame of Romance

Lately, many callers have been asking why their significant other gets so moody, withdrawn, does a disappearing act or is just flat-out mean. After much contemplation, the obvious answer is right in front of us: it’s the effect of the economy, and how the bread winner of each home suffers in it. The economy spiraling downward is not a state of mind; it’s a fact of life these days, worldwide. And each generational group suffers differently. I broke down the male/female equation according to age group, and this is what my guides told me. Maybe it will give the insight to each of you on how to weather the economy until it turns around again.

OVER 40 – With so many companies cutting back staff or closing doors completely the over 40 crowd is “up against” a younger, well schooled group of young people. The “just out of school” people don’t have expectation of large income and are willing to “pay their dues” with lower salaries. So, the real hardship is with people over 40 who may include people that were planning to retire but now have to go back into the workforce too. And, the 60 year olds also add burden to the economy by having some money from pensions therefore allowing them to come into the workforce asking for lower salaries too, therefore tightening the 40+ market even further.

UNDER 40 – With the economy being so bad over the last decade the under 40s are in limbo. They haven’t yet experienced the larger swings of an economy and that is probably a good thing. Although they have watched their parents suffer, therefore giving some insight, there is nothing like hands on personal experience to explain the ups and downs of economy. And under-40s are the first coupled to both work/earn income and co-create, therefore keeping hope alive without boundry.

The biggest difference however lies in the difference of how men and women view the economy. An example is looking at banking.

Most men say “I am a banker”—which therefore ties his entire identity into the I AM meaning that if things are bad, his life looks bad to him. It makes many withdraw and act badly to their loved ones.

Most women say “I work at a bank”—which therefore means this is what she does during the day but may be a mom and house wife at night. Therefore in her daily multi-tasking of her life, only one part looks bad to her.

Of course when I say men/women, I’m referring to the main income provider of a family, usually being the man according to statistics. And a side note is, Thank God that’s changing!

The economy will start to turn around after the election of 2012. The US is fast becoming “like a third world country” however, in reality the US still sets the standard worldwide. In 2013 the economy will slowly start increasing growth through December of that year. 2014 the economy is bearable again with some major growth markets still to be determined. Most likely the companies experiencing ideal growth will be the companies growing within the going green sectors. They will lead the economy forward. The extreme wealth that we experienced in the 90s and prior to 911 will not repeat for another twenty years. We are now learning how to live differently, and how to live in gratitude by staying humble. I call it the Great New World. And because we learn different values by losing so much, we now feel rich as a nation and the new world-powers are forced to work together better than ever before.

Lucy, the quote ( below ) from your article is VERY true…..I really feel that , since 2008, this sinking economy has hit men overall harder than some women….men seem to identify themselves more with their career and job title.
I really feel for them and my heart goes out to them as it’s been really tough out there!
