It’s OK to be Single, We Swear!
Times change, and these days not everyone marries their high school sweetheart or meets their Mr. or Ms. Right while attending college. More and more people are finding they like being single, and this can be hard for our families to accept. So if you go home for the holidays this year, you may find yourself repeating the words you’ve said so often, “Yes, mom, I’m still single!” Tired of being beaten up for being single when all you really want is a mate? Talk with Psychic Maryanne ext. 9146 to see what’s ahead in your love life.
Maybe you like being single, or maybe you don’t, but this is one subject that makes you otherwise dread a joyous get-together with the ones you love.
Home is Where the Guilt is
You work hard and don’t get to spend a lot of time with family and friends. When you go home for the holidays, you think of homemade dinners, the smell of fresh apple pie, playing with nieces and nephews and even throwing sticks for the family dog. About 10 minutes into your arrival though—after you’ve dropped the suitcase to hug and kiss the family—the questions start. “Are you dating anyone?” “Is there someone with you?” “Are you alone again?” “Why are you still single?”
I’m a Failure
You could be an acclaimed pianist or even a rocket scientist, but if you’re still single, the look in your mom’s eyes could make you feel like a total failure. You try to play up your latest accomplishments, but all you hear in return is, “Why can’t my baby find someone to settle down with?” Last week, your boss was promising you a raise and a promotion. At work you’re a hit and you may feel like you’re on top of the world. One trip home and suddenly you’re staring at yourself in the mirror saying, “I’m a failure.”
You may enjoy the single life. You may like dating a variety of interesting people and not being tied down. You may enjoy the freedom of dating when you want and not dating when you don’t. You may love your life just the way it is, but that one fatal trip home can crush your self-esteem like an ant under a sensible pair of mom shoes. Suddenly you find yourself missing what you didn’t even want in the first place. At dinner, you find no matter what subject you try to switch the conversation to it always comes back to you and you find yourself screaming out, “Yes, mom, I’m still single.”
Defense is No Offense
You could justify your life choices until you’re blue in the face. You may try to convince your family that it’s a different world out there than when your mom met your dad, but your defenses will soon run out. You’re suddenly worn and distressed. There was no offense you could have planned, and there’s certainly no defense you can muster. Nobody beats mom; she’s always right. And you resolve to answer, once again, “Yes, Mom, I’m still single, but I’m working on it. I promise.” Ready to find the love of your life? You are so right Gina! Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!
To thine own self be true!
If you like being single, walk and live in that truth.
Personally, I love being single, and have turned down offers of marriage to retain my freedom ad independence.
I realize that this does not hold true for others who are searching for a committed relationship,…….
…… but IF you really love being single, then don’t allow the holidays, or family, or friends to bring you down or make you feel awkward.
Live your truth. That is the true key to empowerment.
Happy Thanksgiving Everybody !!!!
Blessed Be )O(
