Amber

Amber is unique in that it has an organic (rather than mineral) nature. In other words, it does not possess a crystalline structure. Although this beautiful stone is found all over the world, the best deposits come from Dominica, and the Baltic Sea areas. Many myths surround the origin of amber. One of which tells about Apollo, who after being cast from Mount Olympus, wept tears of pure amber. This unique stone exudes a coupling of both personal and cosmic energies. Fluorite

Fluorite has the widest range of colors of any mineral, flowing from blue-violet to almost colorless.  The stone’s name comes from a phenomenon called “fluorescence.” Fluorescence was first documented by George Stokes in 1852. Fluorite was widely used to help with the symptoms of kidney disease and for strengthening teeth, in the 18th century. In Ancient Egypt, gorgeous scarabs were carved from fluorite. Statues made from fluorite have been found in Pompei and China as well. Some claim that wearing fluorite help with concentration. Turquoise

Turquoise is one of the most well-known stones, having been mined and used in jewelry-making for at least 5,000 years. Persian turquoise is well-loved and well-known, and has been a good source of the stone for the western world for many centuries. The tomb of Tutankhamen revealed many objects made from turquoise including his famous funeral mask.

Many Native American tribes use this beautiful stone for ceremonial as well as adornment tasks. For instance, ancient Aztecs believed turquoise was sacred to their gods. Apaches believed the stone was a gift from Father Sky. By placing turquoise on their bows, they thought they would always have a perfect aim. Pueblo Indians became wealthy from the trade of beautiful turquoise objects as well as from mining the stone. During the Victorian era, turquoise found favor among the upper class.

Labradorite

There is a beautiful legend surrounding this very unique stone. The story tells that an Intuit warrior on the Newfoundland coast of Canada released the Northern Lights with a strike of his sword. The Northern Lights had become trapped in the coastal rocks, but because of the warrior, the lights are now in the sky for all to see. Good uses for this gorgeous stone are the clearing of the mind from all types of mental confusion and distress. Hematite

Hematite is one of the heaviest minerals and has a long and varied history. In its powdered form it is used as a pigment in paint. It is also used as a polishing powder for jewelry. Hematite has been found on Mars, which undoubtedly helped to give the “red planet” its nickname. Hematite is an excellent grounding stone, and earrings made from this stone are a good way to accomplish this task.

Carnelian

This stone contains traces of iron oxide which give it it’s reddish-brown coloring. Carnelian was discovered in the tombs of Egypt where it was used to help reach the afterlife. Ancient Greeks used carnelian in the creation of jewelry. It is believed that Hindus and Muslims used the stone to endear themselves to Allah. Carnelian is a great stone for strength and courage during extremely stressful times. Carnelian also strengthens the first (root) Chakra, and as such is a stone of passion as well.

Kyanite

The word “kyanite” comes from the Greek word for “blue.” Kyanite also comes in shades of green. Industrial uses for kyanite include heat-resistant ceramic cookware, electrical insulators and even spark plugs. The crystals in this stone tend to be long, this and blade-like. This is a tremendous stone for protection when connecting with the other side through channeling, telepathic travel, mediumship or even in visualizations. Kyanite can cut through chaos and help to create calm.

Tiger’s Eye

Tiger’s eye comes in beautiful combinations of dark and light bands that actually switch when you reverse the stone in your palm. In other words, what was dark now becomes light, and vice versa. Tiger’s eye comes in several interesting combinations including the well-known yellow-brown. There is a red version, as well as a blue (called Hawk’s eye). This is a stone of strength and protection, which Roman soldiers used to carry with them into battle.
