A Friend’s House Party

Going to a house party is a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new people who could fit nicely into your social group. If you like to drink, but don’t have a lot of money to spend, the free drinks will likely be flowing here. And if you don’t drink, you don’t have to worry about a two-drink minimum. You may have more than one bathroom to choose from, so the lines won’t be as long as they would be at an event space. Also, you won’t be surrounded by tons of loud people you don’t know. This is a great way to start the new year with a more connected energy. See friends you already know and make memories for a lifetime.

A Local Bar

If you crave crowds and noise, spend the evening in a local bar. It will be crowded, loud and warm, but many people thrive on that energy. There will be new people to meet, and long bathroom lines, but if you have the money to spend on drinks, it could be a lot of fun. This is big night for bars and they often make a lot of money, so expect drink minimums, but you may also find activities like photo booths with silly props. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, because bars on New Year’s Eve are usually standing room only.

Concert/Club/Ticketed Event

If you have event tickets, you’ve most likely planned ahead. You’ve probably spent a lot of money on tickets, and everything else that goes with celebrating a new year. Nice clothes, a fancy ride, dinner out and drinks cost a pretty penny. This type of celebration is often the most draining. It’s loud and chaotic, so make sure you get plenty of rest before you venture out for the evening. Also, a lot of people are sick this time of year, so prepare your immune system in case you get exposed to the cold or flu. And take some earplugs because it is about to get loud!

Watching Television at Home

If you don’t feel like going out, or can’t afford it, staying at home and watching the ball drop on TV is a great option. It’s definitely the quietest and the least chaotic. Last year, I was sick on New Year’s Eve, so my boyfriend and I stayed in and watched all the special holiday shows. We had a great time listening to the music and making fun of the bands we didn’t like. It was lovely quality time. We didn’t have to deal with traffic, trying to find parking, or the massive amount of drunk people. I really liked that we didn’t have big plans. I was also able to recharge and recover. Just make sure you have everything you need to celebrate at home, whether it’s food, drinks or activities, so you don’t have to venture out into the chaos.

Planning Your Plans

Whatever you decide to do on New Year’s Eve, stay safe. If you go out, make sure someone not with you knows where you are going. Make sure your phone is fully charged and bring your charger with you. Always have extra cash on you and be aware of your surroundings.

Going out on New Year’s Eve can be really fun, but only if you are up for the chaos and expense of it. Check in with your feelings and decide if you feel like being social or not. I hope you make the most of your night!

    For as long as I remember, being Latin, and we know how to have fun or make it happen;
    I need and wish to be where there is loud music, loud people, loud noise specially having
    lost my dearest husband almost exactly a year ago, and spending our last new year’s eve together; cannot stay at home with such sad memory, so, I am taking my son and I to a neighborhood High End Hotel Lounge to celebrate. We live in a sort of “small town” so, do
    not expect much midnight “traffic” around trusting my “spirit guides” and Angels to keep
    our way safe, so we can enjoy our “black eyed peas” and 12/13 for luck, grapes when we
    get home. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!
