Your 8-Step Plan to Make Your Dreams Happen
If you’ve recently gotten off track, fell off the wagon, fell by the wayside or found yourself falling back into old, unproductive patterns, you’re not alone. It happens to all of us at some point or another and it gets in the way of any attempts we make to accomplish goals. Even the most successful people have setbacks too and getting off track doesn’t make us failures. It just means we’re human and as such, we’re not perfect.
Having trouble focusing on the future? A reading with a life path psychic can help you get back on track!
One important thing to remember is that nothing can keep you down as long as you don’t use “getting off track” as an excuse to stay off track. Sure, it’s not easy to have a positive attitude when life throws you curveballs, but the alternative is unproductive. Instead, believing that things will turn around and having a “this too shall pass” attitude will actually draw people and situations to you that can assist you. No one is running to help someone who feels they can’t accomplish goals, so it has to start with you. Whether your goals are small or lofty doesn’t really matter; it just needs to matter to you. And once you start turning things around, you’ll start to feel much better about everything—but mostly yourself. So, are you ready to get started? Here are eight ways to accomplish your goals after you’ve experienced a setback:
1. Do one positive, productive thing. Even if it’s unrelated to your setback, doing something positive will change your mindset. It can be extremely motivating to do something good, even if it’s for someone else’s benefit.
2. Next, take that more-positive mindset and direct it towards your desire to accomplish goals. Ask yourself how you can make one small change that will change the direction of the path you’re currently on and start to turn things around.
3. Start getting specific with your steps to accomplish goals. If your plan is to eat healthier, for example, decide that no matter what you eat going forward, you’ll be sure to include at least one vegetable. Whether you’ve slipped up with one wrong move or you’ve started sliding backward, know that you can still get back on track. However, it won’t happen overnight. Start with small, positive, doable steps that you can build on—like the foundation of a well-built house.
4. Next, write down your plan to accomplish goals. The most important part of writing something down is to be specific. Good intentions, reinforced by a written commitment will make you feel like you have something to be accountable for. Don’t just say you’re going to resume your gym routine, for example. Write down that you’re going to the gym on specific days at specific times. Again, your plan can be broken up into small increments if you’re the type who gets easily overwhelmed. Just move forward at whatever pace prevents you from giving up altogether.
5. Block out time to set yourself up for success. Following your written routine will work best without distractions. For example, if you want to eat healthier but the kids’ needs and wants are taking up your time, cook a week’s worth of healthy meals on a night when everyone’s asleep. That may sound sacrificial of your time, but it will actually save you time during the week, it will eliminate daily stress, and it will be a productive step that helps you accomplish goals.
6. Multitasking is not your friend. You can’t run on a treadmill and get the full benefit of a workout if you’re paying attention to texts and emails. Don’t divide your focus between multiple tasks at once. That’s what probably threw you off track in the first place. Instead, focus on one thing at a time.
7. Bigger problems require more aggressive action. If you’re trying to quit a bad habit, especially if it has become a big problem, you may also have to take bigger, more aggressive steps, such as surrounding yourself with people who don’t have your problem. Your bad habit is taking a toll on your life and the only one who can change that is you. You may just have to say goodbye to people who don’t champion your goals.
8. Get an accountability partner. This can be a coach, a partner, a life path psychic or a friend. Having someone who will hold you accountable can be a huge help when you want to accomplish goals.
