Understanding Your Daily Focus
Hello Fellow Seekers! The last several weeks have been a creative blur for me, which I will admit is a very new experience. I have always found a creative outlet in music and theatre but I have been enjoying finding new ways of expressing my creative nature. Though it has left me feeling like I need a few more hours in the day at times, I think I have learned more about myself thanks to these new pursuits.
Do you have a favourite way of expressing yourself or to get your creative juices flowing? It always amazes me that even though there are many artistic pathways that people can follow, there are many similarities amongst artists and creators as far as the actual process is concerned.
This month finds many people planning the decorating of their homes for the autumn and winter seasons, along with projects that they want to tackle once the weather makes staying inside far more appealing. In this week’s Daily Focus, we are going to reflect on nurturing our artistic tendencies, and how through creating we learn about ourselves.

Music is my first love, always has been. It touches us in a way that very few things can, invoking memories and feelings that we sometimes think we have forgotten. It can also inspire and drive us – I’m sure most of us have music that we put on to give us some pep when we are exercising or doing chores. Music taps into our deepest emotions and can make even the most stoic of humans cry and show their emotional depths. Do your musical tastes seem to change with your moods? They probably do. The next time you are feeling tired or down try switching your usual playlist for something else and see if your energy rises as the notes do. Today’s word is Invoke.

And if we continue that though, Life is Art. If we view it as such it allows us to see that everything that we do is an act of creation, and what is art but an act of creation? The relationships and families we nurture, the careers we pour our energy into, the interests and hobbies that we spend time on are canvasses and tools that we use to create the art that is us and our lives. Embrace that creative energy and never be afraid to paint outside the lines. Today’s word is Artistry.

Sometimes it is possible to think too much. Though we shouldn’t just act on impulse, sometimes we do need to listen to our hearts. We often find ourselves in the never-ending loop of analyzing a situation or problem, and then re-analyzing it over and over again until we find ourselves unsure of what the right solution or path is. It is at these times that quieting our thoughts and approaching things from our hearts and intuition can make all the difference in the world. Today’s word is Visceral.

What would a blog entry about art and creating be without Bob Ross? Incomplete, in my opinion. No matter what happened while he was painting, nothing was ever a mistake; he was always able to make it an integral part of the painting, making it even more beautiful than it was before. Life throws us challenges, changes, and surprises and we may make some mistakes along the way, but those mistakes are part of what makes you who you are. How could it possibly be a mistake? Start viewing those parts of your life as positive steps in helping you to grow into the amazing human being that you are and see the big picture. Today’s word is Kismet.

When most people jump into something new, they start researching everything from supplies to techniques, and of course, masters of the craft. The next thing that happens is that they start comparing themselves to those people and then lose some of the steam that was driving them forwards. Stop comparing yourself to other people. Everyone is a beginner at some point, and everyone learns and reaches achievements at different points. It doesn’t mean that you are not as talented as others or that in time, you won’t be the person that others are looking up to. Give yourself the time you need to learn, experiment, and create. Today’s word is Beginnings.

From childhood, we feel the need to create. Sometimes we create art, sometimes we create messes, but no matter the final outcome, we create something. To leave behind a legacy, a name, a mark, is an inherent drive in all of us and not one to be trivialized or ignored. So, go ahead and give in to that need! Whether your outlet is music, drawing, painting, cooking, planting, writing, singing, or knitting, create and leave your mark on the world and the people around you. Today’s word is Forge.

I’m sure most of us are familiar with the piece by Norman Rockwell titled “Triple Self-Portrait” that shows the painter peering into a mirror while working on a drawing of himself. To me, it has always seemed that he was looking past what he saw in the mirror and deep into himself in an attempt to accurately depict not only what he looked like, but who he was at his core – his soul.
