Understanding Your Daily Focus

Spring has finally arrived, and hopefully many of us, in spite of the frightening times we’re currently facing, are grateful for the appearance of the sun and the longer days. For me, spring has always been a time of healing, rejuvenation, and of course, renewal. Sometimes this healing comes through the introspection that we do during the long, dark months of winter, other times it is from our yearly check-ups with our physicians. No matter how it comes to us, it can still be a difficult transition for us, and it is natural to feel unsettled and in need of help to move past the disease and into a healthy pattern. This week’s daily focus is all about the transition from winter to spring, and the rejuvenation and healing that comes with it.

March 21

“What’s broken can be mended. What hurts can be healed. And no matter how dark it gets the sun is going to rise again.” Helen Barry

It may not seem like it when we are in the middle of healing a broken heart, our spirit, or an injured or sick body, but most things will be mended if we give ourselves and the situation time to follow its natural course. And as our ancestors learned, even the longest nights slowly get shorter. The sunlight takes the lead and heals us with its sense of hope, if only we can be patient. Today’s word is Time.

March 22

“The greatest healing therapy is friendship and love.” Hubert H. Humphrey

Having supportive people in our lives can definitely make the injuries that life throws at us easier. Being there, even if not physically, to help make a friend or loved one laugh can sometimes be a stronger medicine than the ones that we can get off a shelf. Never underestimate the power of connection, genuine concern, and love in helping others or in our own healing of all kinds of wounds. Today’s word is Love.

March 23

“There is no shame in asking for help; it is one the most courageous things you’ll ever do and will lead to greater connection with those around you.” Laura Lane

Being strong enough to ask for help is not an easy thing, and sometimes deciding that we need to enlist the aid of a professional can be a very intimidating endeavor. It’s almost as if, by making that decision we are admitting defeat, when the truth is the exact opposite. There is nothing wrong in accepting that we can’t get through something alone and that our best path at healing comes from getting the help, input, and advice of someone more knowledgeable than ourselves. Today’s word is Teamwork.

March 24

“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.” Steve Maraboli

Professionals are always there should we need them, but a genuine gesture from someone can go a long way in healing a wounded heart, soul, or psyche. A simple wilted flower brought with love from a child still fills my soul with a warmth that even the summer sun can’t match! Little gestures, notes, or calls can go a long way to helping us and those in our lives to move through the healing process. Today’s word is Recovery.

March 25

“Nature itself is the best physician.” Hippocrates

Herbs and plants can do so much to help us, in both their natural forms and from the medications that they help to create. But, nature on its own is also a powerful healer. How can we not feel stress and fear lift off our shoulders when we spend time by the ocean or looking at mountains? Getting outside for even a short time can affect us in some amazing ways. I even recently read that getting our hands in the dirt can lift our moods! Never underestimate the power of Mother Nature! Today’s word is Basics.

March 26

“Personal healing on all levels – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual – comes when we get in touch with our disowned energies. Through integrating all aspects of ourselves, we become whole.” Shakti Gawain

People are complete beings with many facets, but when we are hurting, we often ignore or forget about the other aspects of ourselves and simply focus on the injured area. Even when we are in a good place, we fail to recognize that our physical well-being is tied to our emotional well-being, which in turn in linked to our spiritual well-being, which is then equally linked back to the physical. Realizing that we exist and function on multiple levels can help us to maintain a healthy life and outlook. Today’s word is Integrated.

March 27

“Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know.” Pema Chodron

The experiences, lessons, and situations that we find ourselves in are here for a purpose. And when it comes to our emotional and spiritual health it is important to realize that we will find ourselves looping back to similar situations until we learn what we need to in order to grow. If the same pains and issues are coming back, leading to unease, then maybe it is time to find what we are missing so that we can learn and leave the heartbreak behind us. Today’s word is Students.
