Though somewhat trite, there is a very deep wisdom in developing a sense of detachment. Atisha (an 11th century Tibetan master) once wrote that “The greatest generosity is detachment.”I know that most of the readers on California Psychics understand this concept since our effectiveness is directly impacted by our emotional attachment to what we are “getting” from the caller. When I first began reading here, there were calls that affected me so deeply, I would hang up the phone and just sob. (My Venus is in Pisces, lol!) Then my phone would ring again, and I would have to turn it off, just like a light switch. Now, the only thing that really moves me into this state is the light that some of my callers carry and the tears are out of gratitude for even having the opportunity to witness their grace.
When we let go, and permit the universe to work its magic, we have the opportunity to get out of our own way. It is the difference between power and force, acceptance vs. denial. It is not about giving up as much as it is about being still. Empty. I often tell my callers, “I view my mind like a bad dog, and my foot is on its neck all the time. If you wish to starve the wolf, do not feed it. Have you ever heard the line, ‘train your Dalmatian, or your Dalmatian will train you?'”
Peace and happiness: “When I have this person, or when I lose this weight, or when I get this or that, THEN I will be happy.” I usually tell the caller, “No, you have it backward. Be happy now. Right where you are. Everything is perfect right now. So, knowing that, what do you wish to create with the rest of your life?” You are free. Own that power. Own that responsibility. I am not saying that you haven’t painted yourself into a really small corner and movement may be difficult now. There are always consequences for our decisions and the universe has no problem upping the ante until we get the message.
Our attachments are generally the cause of suffering. Need nothing, but want everything. Embrace your prosperity, not as a goal, but as your birthright. Then stand back and allow your holographic image to release those waves of creation. They grow wings and take flight. Worry, over-thinking and fear pulls them back. Sooner or later, we all have to deal with the “faith” issue. Be there NOW. It is a choice.

You are not stupid. Just think about it, Laurie. Truly, we are not in control of anything outside of ourselves… By letting go of the thought we are will free us of trying to be. In a state of chaos, when things are not “going” as we think they should be, we inevitably feel “out of Control.” By abeing detached we are able to “set free” ourselves and our Ideas of how things “should Be.”
I guess I am just too stupid to understand any of this. I never seem to understand that “let go and let God” thing either. Maybe folks are right. I’m just too stupid.
thank u sir like ur message everythingh is goingh on smoothely
Great Article! I have also dated men younger & older than myself and base who I date soley by the connection. Who can make judgement on the connection between 2 people…well I know alot of people do, but I sure don’t….
All the power to you!
Hi Philip,
Just a reminder that when we hold to tightly to anything, we lose it. I just wrote an article on ezines Oil on Butterfly Wings, and it I believe now was about detachment, although I did not realize that until just reading your article. I realize also that my writing is a message to me, and I hope I am learning from it, because I am experiencing an answer to my attachment, right now, and I believe I get it. I have everything to be grateful for and I’m learning to be present and grateful for what is, now! Thank you.
You’re pretty special yourself. I consider myself lucky to be able to call you my friend.
xo, Fran
Hi Fran….
I’m glad you are living your life happily…..you are a very special lady.

Guess what? I woke up HAPPY this morning…just because!
Before I fell asleep last night, I thanked God for everything…all the blessings of the past, present AND future.
After I shook the sleep out of my head (and body…OMG!, why does it have to creek so much? And ACHE…yeesh!), I checked my email and found a nice surprise. It really does pay to be happy in the moment. What’s that old saying? Good things come to those who wait. One time, you told me that “the train has left the station.” I think I can see the smoke stack on the horizon… (at least, that’s what I hope it is and not somebody just burning their rubbish!! Ha! Ha!)
(I think I’m gonna reach for that moon while I’m being patient…and happy)
Hugs, Fran
(p.s. — any thoughts on who likes my blue pens as much as I do??)
Hi Fran,
I agree with Phillip…….and the saying ” need nothing but want everything “.
Or, as I would say…..
” Be happy and present in the moment, but don’t be afraid to reach for the moon”.
Old ” habits ” of thinking die hard…but Fran, I DO think you ” get it ” now.

Phillip, I just found this post. You never cease to amaze me with your depth and your “knowing.”
So much of what you said hit home, but I was truly touched by one line in particular…”Need nothing, but want everything.” When we focus solely on needing something, we lose sight of what we already have. Once we realize that happiness comes from within, and not from outside, the “needing” becomes “wanting” and pretty soon it’ll become “having.” Thank you for helping me realize that.
I remember a time when I would wake up every morning, and I felt HAPPY. I would be at my desk at work, and people would pass by and ask me how on earth I could be so happy so early in the morning. I somehow lost that in the last 20 yrs, worrying about the kids, the house, the finances. I forgot how to wake up happy.
I made a promise to myself to change that. To embrace each day like a new adventure, with blessings waiting around each corner. Now, instead of hoping for the blessings, I’m EXPECTING them.
Hugs, Fran
aww your so sweet!
Abigail, you made my heart sing by calling me your friend. I cherish that. You are precious. Whatever this thing we call life is, we are all going there together. It is a joy to recognize our kin as we meet them along the way.
Wonderful article Phillip!!!
I am so glad you wrote about this topic, it is something that I try to practice every day. It is so easy to forget, sometimes, that everything is in Divine Timing, and we are always right on target!!
I recently had a caller who’s soul mate said they wanted some “space”. So often we hear these words as the “death of the relationship”. But I could see that this was simply space for them to re-adjust, so that they could begin to be together in a deeper way. I shared this with this very loving caller, and in choosing non-attachment, they were back together in only two weeks and were happier than ever!!
Blessings to all!
Chel
So wonderfully wriiten Phillip yet so easily dimissed by the human mind. What a beautiful reminder for people to read and contemplate that they can give themselves permission to do just that be happy! I choose Happy and lots of cyber hugs my friend.
Blessings Love & Light
Abigail
happiness comes from within, we all have it since we were born. We just don’t know we have it.
Hello Phillip,
Great topic on Detachment, to many time we get stuck on the way things should be, the consistency of our life, I believe so many of our belief systems are from society, the fact that for so many years it was known that you should stay at the same job for 40 yrs, same marriage same home for life, and if that diddnt happen for whatever reason it changed, then it was looked upon….Oh what happen where did you make a wrong choice, it was viewed as something bad, which in return brought doubt to our own ability to make the right choices for our life.
Once we realize that something in our life is not working for a reason and of course the more effort and energy, we apply the more it falls apart, look at the signs and trust our self to know that it’s time to move on… the happier our life will be, Trust You are on track, there are no mistakes just great learning experiences….
Love and Blessings!
Dear Phillip,
I love the way you put this thought form into words…I really enjoyed reading it.
On the path, detachment is one of the most difficult things to achieve and possibly the most important.
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful story, and reminding me 🙂
love,
joyce
Hi Phillip-
I really liked this article. Detachment can save you everytime, especially when a big dose of anger strikes. We all need a cooling off period, if not, this is how things get destroyed. It’s good to detach when dealing with negativity.
Detachment means GROWTH for a lot us.
Thanks,
Miss Krystal
Hi Phillip,
Yet again, another truly good article. I agree, because if you are happy now,you will be that much more motivated to achieve your goals.
Positive energy multiplies….( so does negative energy ). Thought IS energy… so,which type of energy do you want to build up around you ???? The choice is yours.
Being ” present in the moment ” creates a better tomorrow…..and the next day…..and the next day.
Another great article Phillip !!!

I like to “greet each day with an open hand”. A difficult daily process, hence the “Greeting each day” part. The concepts of Soulmates and Destiny have created obsession and fixation in many of us. I don’t think that was the original plan. This creed has many of us selfishly and desperately grasping for leashes which turn into nooses. These philosophies should be offering hope and inspiring understanding for our companions. Don’t get me wrong, I want my relationships to work. I have desires. However, it’s a daily devotion. Nothing is really owed to any of us.
