Gemini singer-songwriter Lionel Richie has both the brains and the creativity to go along with his sign. Born today in 1949, his logical Sun, Mercury and Mars in Gemini helped him graduate from Tuskegee Institute with a major in economics. While at college, however, he found his true calling: music. Since then, he has sold more than 100 million records.
Sometimes called the black Barry Manilow (who is also a Gemini), Richie moved on from his R&B days with the Commodores to become famous for his sentimental love songs, compliments of Venus in homey Cancer. An affliction to Venus from Neptune, the planet of artistry and illusion, gives him a gift for music but has also contributed to two divorces. On the positive side, the Neptune influence heightens his empathy. Richie helped to raise more than $3.1 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He cites his grandmother, who survived breast cancer in her 80s to live to 104, as his inspiration.
