“Eclipse,” the new Twilight movie, opens today in theaters across the country. The Twilight saga has claimed the hearts of women – and men – since the films and books first debuted. Some fans are now so addicted that it’s affecting their marriages and relationships – this Los Angeles Times article reports that Twilight fans, unlike fans of other entertainment franchises, have a tendency to become addicted almost to the level of needing a twelve-step program.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
“For the latest illustration of ‘Twilight’ mania, look no further than the hundreds of fans who pitched tents and slept outside for days in front of the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles in hopes of catching a glimpse of one of the stars at Thursday’s red-carpet premiere for ‘Eclipse’… ‘This is the first time I’ve been this passionate about anything,’ says Kelli Chavez, a 39-year-old mom who drove in from Sylmar. ‘I’ve read each of the books at least eight or nine times and I’ve watched each of the movies over 300 times apiece.’…
“‘I check the Internet all day long for Twilight news, from the minute I wake up until I go to bed at midnight,’ says Joyce Swiokla, 50, a former engineer who runs the website CullenBoysAnonymous.com. ‘If there is a chemical that’s released when you’re falling in love, your brain has it when you’re reading or watching Twilight. You get that utopic feeling of first love and you want to experience it over and over again.’”
What do you think – is Twilight addiction a real phenomenon? Do you or anyone you know suffer from it? And what’s the best way to break it?

I’m very addicted to twilight and sometimes it scares me. When I start to think about I start to almost cry and then automatically turn it on. This is probably because I’m so lonely and the movie makes me feel whole again. Yeah I need help.
I am with Gina Rose.
I do get why people get obsessed or addicted with it though. It’s the age old fascination with the dark, but beautiful vampire. Ask any Goth! They’ve been falling for this for decades!
When your own life is not that fulfilling, it can be rather easy for some to escape into a dream world of made up, seemingly “perfect” characters. Some get lost in the fantasy, which is what most sub-cultures are about.
I think it’s amusing. The only time I get annoyed is when it affects me. When I saw the last Twilight movie in the theater, I was seated next to a whole bunch of giggling, texting and talking 15-year olds throughout the movie. I got annoyed with the fact that they couldn’t keep their mouth shut because they were so excited. But then, I am sometimes a grouchy, judgmental Virgo. What do you expect 😉
Hello,
This is so interesting that people can be addicted to movies, I see people can be addicted to anything. I have seen the Twilight series I do like them, but for me no addiction.
Blessings and Big Hugs!

Hi,
I am not addicted to any film series, and cannot imagine ever needing a twelve step program to quit watching anything on TV or in film,……. to me, that’s just plain silly……. LOL….
…..but I do like True Blood and Twilight. It’s a nice escape from the mundane.
Blessed Be )O(
