Are Artists Psychic?

I sometimes think that creative people have a heads up on intuition. Many of my artist friends seem to have an instinctive knowing about things of a spiritual nature. It frequently comes out in their work. Whether the person is a painter, writer, actor, photographer, sculptor, or any other kind of creator, this type of individual, like a child, seems to be closer to the source.

Once in my studio, as I bent over my silk canvas, painting doves, the elements combined perfectly and I could actually hear the doves that I was painting, gently cooing. I was one with the moment, with my inner source, and my creativity.

Artists are frequently pigeonholed as oddballs, strange people, or “out there.” I’ve come to believe that this is because most people don’t understand artists, and in that respect, feel more comfortable by classifying them as odd. Creative people frequently get to the source more quickly. They can be more child-like, more truthful, more unrelenting. They process their inner angst into creating art.

This art is frequently prophetic, as in dream work. Artists over the centuries have forecast prophetic events in their work. (The following master artists come to mind: El Greco, Dali, Blake and Goya.) By the nature of their work, all artists connect with their inner being, including the spiritual/psychic/intuitive part.

Please don’t infer that I am concluding that artists are the most intuitive people. I am merely observing the keen connection between creativity and intuition in artists of all kinds.

Artists frequently work in isolation. They are more often than not looked on with awe – while, in an odd paradox, their works usually pile up without being sold. So, it’s only justified that the Universe has ordained that on an exceptionally good day, an artist can become one with his/her work, his intuition, and energies, and create great things.

What do you think – are artists naturally intuitive?

I am adding to this convo 9 yrs late but it is a neat one. Yes in short.
There have been quite a few times where I have been doodling and ended up drawing something very intuitive and personally true.
But here is a bigger example I love. Thomas Wolfe and American writer living feom about 1900 to 1940 or so. Wrote Look Homeward Angel.
Also wrote a short story called Party at Jack’s. In it he describes an apartment fire in upper class Manhatten and describes how the upper class at the party treat the servant during the fire.
The deacription of the fire sounds like 9 -11.

    Hi,
    Are artists psychic ????? Yes.

Artists and psychics are very ” right-brained “….the right side of the brain, and least understood side of the brain, rules the creative, intuitive thought process.

I’ve read for many, many famous artists that found inspiration thru a psychic dream or flash of intuition that payed off ( literally).
Many years ago, I was reading for a lady ( famous herself ) in the music industry who was also a manager/producer…..she was managing a very famous group and was about to release an album but did not know what ” single ” to lead with……thru her dreams, and after a consult with me, she decided upon a song that went on to become a very famous song that the group was known for and still recognized for. This dream of her’s included bits and pieces that was used in the shooting of the TV video for that song as well.

    Blessed Be )O(

    Hi Ariel,
I do agree that there is some truth to this thought, I often wonder if its not a lot of channeling that may be going on within the creativity.

    Blessings and Big Hugs!
