104 year old Ivy Bean, reported to be the “world’s oldest Twitter user,” died on Wednesday. Bean became a Facebook user at the age of 102, but then switched to Twitter because it was easier for her. Also a fan of Wii Bowling, Bean proved that it’s never too late to jump on the tech bandwagon… and provided an inspiration to her many fans.
(Bean had 56,300 followers.)
CNN reports:
London, England (CNN) – From the two-story care home where she lived in the northern English city of Bradford, 104-year-old Ivy Bean would tell her nearly 57,000 Twitter followers around the world what she did each day – from eating fish and chips to sitting in the garden.
Bean’s warm and friendly nature came across in every message, and she regularly corresponded with her followers. Even when she had a bad day, she never dwelled on it for long…
Wright informed Bean’s Twitter followers Wednesday that she died “peacefully” at 12:08 a.m.
We’re deeply inspired by Bean’s example – what do you think? Do you know any seniors who use social media?

Oh… this is too bad, I must say, seniors have so much knowledge and wisdom to share with us, I welcome the interaction from them, its more of my pleasure to listen to all of there life experience, its I that gains from them sharing, wish there were more that twittered or face-booked, we would be the winners.
Blessings and Big Hugs!

Hi,
Awwwww…..that’s a real shame.
But, Ivy proved that you can lead a full and active life right up to the very end .
Mentors, Sages,Life Masters can come in many forms and sizes and ages. Ivy, was one of those mentors……she led by example. Much can we learn from our elders.
Way to go Ivy!!!!! , may you Rest In Peace.

What a sweet story. It’s cool that she lived in Bradford .. that was my grandfather’s middle name so I used it as my son’s middle name. I don’t know if a 67 year old would be considered a senior, but I have a friend that age who is a widow and recently discovered Facebook, and she loves it! It’s an easy way for her to keep up with friends and relatives, as well as a girl she rescued from a difficult childhood who now calls her Grandma, and her family (I might add that the girl grew up and joined the military, went to Iraq and is now in Germany). I think social media for seniors is great!
