What You Wish You’d Known in Your 20s and 30s

11 Things You Wish You'd Known in Your 20s and 30s | California Psychics

Don’t Forget the Lessons You’ve Learned

It’s easy to dwell on the past and imagine how things could have turned out differently had we acted with the gift of hindsight. But, of course, we can’t go back, we can only stay rooted in the current moment and look forward into the future. As the years tick by, it can be easy to forget the lessons we learned from our past mistakes, as well as our accomplishments, but these lessons can easily shape the rest of life if you learn and embrace them early enough.

Choose Your Company Wisely

Making friends as an adult is not easy, but that doesn’t mean you should attach yourself to anyone who’s willing to spend time with you. Not everyone in the world is out to get you, but there are plenty of people who will take advantage of someone who’s lonely. Learn to be more discerning in your relationships, surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to be the best version of yourself rather than allow you to remain stagnant in your ways. Most importantly, don’t waste time on people who don’t make an effort to reciprocate any of the care and friendship you offer. They’re not worth your time.

Don’t Wait to Say “I Love You”

So much of our lives are spent fretting about other people’s reactions and playing it safe. But being safe in life means never taking chances that can change everything, for better or for worse. Always let the people you love know how much they mean to you. Especially when you live apart from those you care about, every chance you get to let them know how much they mean to you is precious; don’t waste it. And if you’ve been pining from afar, find the courage to say those three little words that can mean so much. You never know what will come of taking that chance.

Enjoy Being Single

Being in a relationship can be wonderful, but there’s a lot to be said for being single as well. It’s lovely to have the luxury of time and money that is yours to do with as you please. Take this time to find out what your favorite pastimes are, what you enjoy spending your money on, and what it’s like to take care of yourself. As part of a couple, you don’t necessarily have the chance to figure that out, and they’re all essential parts of your character. Another essential thing you learn when you’re single is what your values are, and how they will come into play in a future relationship (if you’re ever interested in one, of course.)

Let Yourself Relax

While it’s admirable to hustle and give yourself a good foothold in the world, it’s also extremely important to take a break sometimes. Life is too short to be ruled by stress and anxiety. Certainly, all the items on your to-do list are not all that pressing, and anything pressing will be done far more efficiently when you feel calm and rested. Give yourself the grace of a cup of tea and a good book, even when you feel overwhelmed. Self-care is a necessary part of life. Don’t push it to the side till you’re burnt out.

Don’t Fear Failure

Not everything you try in life is going to work out, but there’s nothing wrong with that. You’re only human after all, and no one gets it right 100% of the time. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try everything you can. Whatever captures your interest, whatever your heart calls you to do, try it. Just because you don’t succeed at it does not mean it’s a failure, and it certainly doesn’t make you a failure. Things that don’t work out are opportunities to learn and grow; to learn what you don’t want to pursue and what you want to invest your time into.

Surround Yourself with Positivity

Learn to cut out any toxic people in your life and stop feeling obligated to do things that don’t bring you joy. Let your life be filled with activities that make you happy and energize your mind and body without feeling like chores. We all have to work to live, but if you cultivate your passions, you can turn them into your livelihood, so don’t discount those hobbies that make you happy just because they are hobbies. Spend your precious time with people who value you and lift you up. Life is too short to spend time with people who make you feel less; you deserve better than that.

Find Time for Your Passions

Time is really all we have, and we don’t know how much of it we’ve got left. So, take the time to foster your passions—the ones you enjoy now and new hobbies that leave you feeling fulfilled. If you’re spending your leisure time on endless tasks and activities you don’t truly love, consider rethinking how you’re allocating those precious minutes. That simple act could change the whole course of your future after all.

Forgive Your Past Mistakes

Life is too short to worry about the things you’ve done that you can’t change. We all have those moments where we said or did the wrong thing, to varying degrees of impact. But no matter how much you beat yourself up about these moments, you can never change them. Forgive yourself and focus on being the best person you can be from this moment forward.

Ask for Advice

Big or small, good or bad, most situations can be improved by asking for advice. Sure, you can figure things out on your own, but why deny yourself the benefit of the experience the people around you have if it’s available to you? Most people are more than happy to be of help if you ask, glad to pass on their knowledge so that your road in life is a little bit easier to manage. At the end of the day of course, you’re the only one who can make a final decision on what affects your life, but that doesn’t mean you have to make it completely blind.

It’s Never Too Late

No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to do pretty much anything. As long as there is air in your lungs, you have the opportunity to take action. It’s never too late to start eating healthy, quit a job you hate to embark on your dream career, get out of a bad relationship, learn a new skill—you name it. It may be cliché to say that age is just a number, but some things stand the test of time for a reason. The world is full of beauty and excitement, so stop allowing yourself to be held back by the idea that you’re too old or too young to partake in it.

Embrace the Change

The past is easy to dwell on, but there’s nothing we can do to change it. We can, however, decide what our futures will look like by deciding on what direction to take today. It’s not always easy to move on, and it can be frightening to course correct, but life is too short for those kinds of worries. So, embrace your passions, let go of toxicity, indulge in a little self-care, and become a being of love and light. That’s what the world needs right now, and not only will your own future self be grateful for the changes you make today, but the rest of the world will be too.

That was such a wonderful piece & I wanted to print it out, but was not able to get Just the Message to my Future Self.
I really am not interested in all the other ads or announcements. If there is a way, please help me. Both my current & future selves would appreciate it.
