5 Easy Money-Saving Tips

5 Easy Money Saving Tips | California Psychics

Every Little Bit Counts!

The world is becoming more expensive every day, so saving money for a rainy day, and especially for that nest egg you’ve been dreaming about, is more important than ever. It doesn’t have to be an arduous, mind-bending task though. Small changes to your daily routine can save you tons of money throughout the year. Check out some of the tips below to help change your mindset around spending less and saving money.

  1. Close Up and Close Down

Away from your residence for hours at a time? Draw the curtains and close the blinds to keep your home from heating up during the summer, and to keep the heat in during the winter months. This will prevent your AC or heater from coming on during the hours when you aren’t home, and wasting valuable energy and money. And while it may seem like a great expense now, if your attic isn’t insulated, or your windows are old and leaking, invest in insulation and/or new windows. It will save you more than 10 percent of what you currently pay per year in energy bills. Squirrel that extra money away into a savings account for special occasions or retirement, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly it adds up.

  1. Reevaluate Your Entertainment Spending

Many people overpay for their entertainment, either not wanting to suffer from FOMO, or just wanting to ensure that their family has the best experience when they go out for a fun time. And there’s nothing wrong with splashing out every once in a while, for an experience that will create memories forever; however, not every form of entertainment has to be crazy expensive. In fact, those amazing memories don’t even have to come with a giant price tag.

Streaming Networks vs. Cable

Are you still paying for an overpriced cable package when you only watch a few channels? Start looking at the shows you can’t live without on your cable package, and then research whether or not they appear on any of the many streaming services out there right now. With all of the options out there like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Vimeo, just to name a few, there’s a really good chance that you’ll be able to find everything you’re looking for and pay a lot less per month for your everyday home entertainment.

Get a Library Card

If you’re not ready to step into the streaming world, but you do want to save money on entertainment, go to your local library and get a library card. Libraries haven’t been exclusively for books for a very long time, though of course you can still find plenty of books of all genres and topics, including new releases and best sellers. You can also find movies, TV series, audio books and music, all of which come in downloadable form too, and all for the extremely low price of zero dollars per item. Just keep on top of those due dates, and you’ll be fine.

Discounted and Free Events

The internet is a beautiful thing, because it lets you sign up for newsletters that your local libraries, museums, symphony, and theaters put together and send out for free. These newsletters let you know about all of the events happening at their venues around you, including when activities that you (or your kids) might enjoy are happening, the dates and locations of farmers markets or craft fairs, discount days/free performances for theaters, symphonies, and museums, etc.

  1. Set Up Automatic Bill Pay or an Alarm

If you have a hard time remembering to pay your bills on time, setting up your bills to automatically pay themselves or a recurring alarm on your phone can save you a ton in overdue fees throughout the year. There’s no need to pay the utility companies, the cable company (see #1 about this) your student loans, or anyone else more money than you need, when the process is usually as easy as going into your online banking system and setting your bills to be paid on a specific day each month, or setting up an additional alarm for your bills on your phone, right next to your daily morning one. Kiss overdue fees goodbye and start planning that summer vacation for next year instead.

  1. Think Used Before New

Let’s be clear about this, there are some things that should always be new rather than used, so use your best judgement here. But there are plenty of things that are just as good used as they are new, and far less expensive. If you’re in the market for large pieces of furniture, such as bookcases, tables, and even entertainment systems, check out a consignment shop first. Used bookstores are great for all of your literary and school needs (you may even find helpful notes in the margins!), and we all know that shelter pets are far superior to pet store pets by now, right?

  1. Make Your Own Coffee

A coffee maker seems to be a standard appliance in every home, so why not make use of it? It may seem like it would take more time to get out the door in the morning by adding one more item to your to do list but sitting in a drive through line on the way to work probably takes longer honestly. And then you’re not only giving someone else money to make a drink you could make at home, but you’re wasting gas while waiting in that line! Morning coffee is an absolute necessity for most people, so feel free to splurge a little on nicer coffee beans at the grocery store, then fire up that beautiful machine that’s sitting in your kitchen, and you’ve saved money. It probably tastes better too.

While you are saving all this money and looking for everything free or cheap or copied or swapped just remember that you and your kids want to earn a living !!! The more we don’t buy or buy really cheap made by very cheap labour means that there is less to go around, I am not judging because I do it myself to some extent but just think about it, even if recycling is an up and coming industry.
