Understanding Your Daily Focus
Many times over the past year we have found ourselves at a crossroads. Should we move forward, and if so in which direction? And if we should stay put, for how long should we do so? The end of the year is a crossroad point that we all share. Should we make a New Year’s Resolution? What should we try to change about ourselves or in our lives?
Winter is a season about looking within. Mundanely, when it gets cold outside we tend to stay within the sanctuary and warmth of our homes, and spiritually we do the same thing when we consider what to change and work on about ourselves.
As we move through this last week of 2019, this week’s Daily Focus looks at letting go of the past, acknowledging who we are today, and determining who and where we want to be in the future.
Happy New Year!
December 28
“Do not let the roles you play in life make you forget who you are.” –Roy T. Bennett
This is the perfect time of year to become honest with ourselves and to realize that although we may have different roles that we fulfill for the people in our lives, those roles do not completely define us. We are more than the masks that we wear or the roles that we have to play. The next time you look in the mirror, make an effort to remember who you are under all of those expectations. Today’s word is Self-Awareness.
December 29
“Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing.” –Sarah Ban Breathnach
Sometimes those leaps of faith are things we are ready for, and other times they can be absolutely terrifying to us. Whether we are looking forward to them or not, sometimes the only thing we can do is close our eyes, take a deep breath, and jump if we really want to see changes in ourselves and our lives. Just as children leap into the leaves in fall and snow piles in the winter, we also need to leap into our futures and our truth. Today’s word is Vault.
December 30
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” –T.S. Eliot
What voice will you be using in the upcoming year? You have come through so much self-discovery and growth and have not only endured but thrived, even with the challenges and difficulties that were thrown in your path. Just as our actual voices change and mature as we get older, our proverbial voice also changes as we grow. Decide now which power-filled voice you will use and what your theme word will be. Today’s word is Statement.
December 31
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” –Melody Beattie
Tonight, we finish the last pages of 2019. What kind of story did it end up being? How did the story play out for you? Are you ready to continue the saga with the next book in the series? The best part about viewing your life and the upcoming year as a story is that you become the author of an amazingly complex, choose-your-own-adventure tale. Which paths will you take this year? Today’s word is Author.
January 1
“New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday.” –Charles Lamb
Happy New Year’s, everyone! Why can’t we have two birthdays? The gift New Year’s gives to us is a fresh start in all aspects of our lives, a chance to reset and redefine ourselves, and a new hope for a better year ahead. Embrace this extra birthday, blow out the candles on the 2020 cake, and make a fantastic wish. Today’s word is Wishful.
January 2
“Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.” –Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Just as the 1920s were a time of boldness, we need that same energy and attitude in the 2020s! Be bold, audacious, and adventurous! Think outside the box and chart a path that is entirely your own. Make yourself the promise that this year you will walk a path that is purely your own and get ready to be amazed with how the world and Universe respond. Today’s word is Intrepid.
January 3
“Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach.” –Tony Robbins
We start the new year with a burst of energy and determination, but when we hit obstacles or problems, we give up instead of finding new ways or methods to stay on the road that we were once so dedicated to. Just as nature finds a way, we need to have the same resilience so that we can keep growing and achieving. Keep your eyes on the prize but accept that sometimes you may need to go the long way around. Today’s word is Fluid.
