Understanding Your Daily Focus
Sometimes I think of the daily astrological forecast as a
second weather forecast. If the moon is going to be void of course, it’s the
same as a rainy day—probably unproductive but potentially cozy. I like to pay
special attention to the shifting of the moon. The way that it bounces from
sign to sign every couple of days offers both insight and respite in
regularity.
There are some major transits coming up this week, which we
will analyze in this week’s Daily Focus. With the moon moving from Aries to Gemini,
we will feel a shift from chasing our own dreams and dealing with internal
hopes and fears, to spreading our emotional energy outward to others. Mercury
is also about to go into retrograde at the end of the week, so this is an
important time to focus on getting things done, taking meetings, and making big
choices before we move into a waiting period, where it will be best to take our
time and hold back on major communication and transactions.

“The moon in Aries is when dreams take flight.”
The moon has moved into Aries, the baby of the zodiac. The sign that is all about having an idea, and then acting on it without thought. This is a great time to work on passion projects, start something new, and shoot your shot if you’ve been waiting for the right moment. This is a good time for emotional vulnerability as it won’t have claws, so to speak. It’s a good time for trying and failing and then trying something new.
Sunday, January 9
“Mercury in Aquarius forms a sextile with Chiron in Aries,
and urges us to communicate boundaries based on old, deep wounds.”
Chiron, the wounded healer, is all about those deep, deep
soul wounds. While it’s in Aries, we can use that fiery, explorative energy to
work on healing. Mercury urges us to communicate always, and Aquarius, always
marching to the beat of their own drum, has no problem drawing firm boundaries
around protecting, or perhaps healing, those old wounds. If you know what works
and keeps you safe, why would you do it differently? However, if you’re
struggling with those old wounds, try setting new boundaries.
Monday, January 10
“The sun in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces: Bringing
structure to your dreams and desires.”
The season of Capricorn is all about buckling down and doing
the work, but Neptune is at home in Pisces, its watery womb, and this is a
place where dreams, fantasy, and imagination take flight. This is a great time
to apply Capricorn’s hardworking energy to something more whimsical, like
music, art, and storytelling.
Tuesday, January 11
“Mars in Sagittarius squares Neptune in Pisces, so
resentment and pride may hold you back from fulfilling your deeper desires.”
I mentioned Neptune in Pisces, at home daydreaming and fantasizing away. Mars, our planet that deals with anger, resentment, passion, and action is in fiery Sagittarius, which demands the physical—creation, exploration, and connection. Things that Neptune in Pisces naturally keeps hidden down in deeper, more personal places. Try to be reasonable about your goals and desires, and where they intersect.
Wednesday, January 12
“When the moon is void of course, it’s hard to get
anything done.”
Another void moon day, where the moon is not in any sign for
a period of time, and it becomes hard to know how we’re feeling, to focus, and
to express ourselves. If you have something big going on today, it’s a good
idea to make sure you’re ready beforehand. Don’t leave all the work until the
last minute.
Thursday, January 13
“The moon enters Gemini, allowing us to learn,
explore, and have fun.”
With the moon in Gemini, our focus stays firmly on our
desire to explore and try new things, but it has matured into a desire to really
delve into and reflect on them. This is an extremely extroverted moon sign even
more so than the one we’ve been in for the last few days. Now is the time to create
deep connections based on what has grasped your interest and attention. Action
doesn’t need to happen yet, but let the feelings present have their moment.
Friday, January 14
“Mercury enters retrograde in Aquarius, creating both
stunted communication, and stunted community.”
It’s another Mercury in retrograde. This is the first of
four for the year, and it will last until February 3. You’re probably no
stranger to Mercury in retrograde, and how it means that things like
communication, technology, trade, and travel can all be thrown off. But each
retrograde also falls under a sign, which can dictate even more of that energy.
With Aquarius as the leader here, things are going to be tough. When an Aquarius
knows what they want, nothing can stop them, but when they’re thrown into
uncertainty, it can be impossible to even make simple decisions. You will likely
find yourself feeling particularly unsure during this transit, so my only
advice is the same advice that applies to every retrograde. Wait! Don’t do
anything rash, and if you have a sudden epiphany—just put it aside for a couple
of weeks.
