Understanding Your Daily Focus
There are a few ways that we group signs in astrology. The
most popular and well-known is probably along elemental lines. We have the Fire
signs, Water signs, Air signs, and Earth signs. These elements give us hints
about the role these signs play. But they are not interchangeable, and they
also connect with each other in other ways. We can look at the signs seasonally
as well, the summer Fire sign differs from the winter Fire sign in key ways.
There is also modality, which in my opinion is just as important as the
elemental classifications. Modality refers to the mutability of the sign, and
it is based on its position in the sky, during a particular season. There are
three types of modality, with four signs in each category.
In this week’s Daily Focus, I want to look at both the
elemental connections of the signs and their compatible modality. I urge you to
look up your full natal chart, so you can see where you have all these elements
and modalities. You will likely be surprised by what you find and the
connections you make.

Saturday, March 26
“Fire signs include Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Fire
signs are known for being adventurous, confident, creative, ambitious, and energetic.
They make great performers, artists, and adventurers. Fire signs are always
looking to expand their horizons, which can make settling down as one a bit
tricky. They do best when they have spontaneous aspects to their life.”
The Fire signs are known as the wild cards of the zodiac.
They are impulsive, passionate, flighty, and attractive. Aries, the baby of the
zodiac, is known for passion. Leo is known for taking center stage and putting
on a show, and Sagittarius is known as being the adventurer, unable to sit
still. All Fire signs like to explore, try new things, and want to keep moving.
Sunday, March 27
“Water signs include Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.
Water signs are known for being emotional, loving, sneaky, empathic, and
creative. They are both great caregivers and masters of behind-the-scenes
machinations. They can be just as cunning as they are caring. Water signs are
social by nature and do best when they have someone else to connect with.”
People with a lot of Water in their chart tend to be deep
feelers. If you have multiple Water sign placements, you are probably someone
that people come to for emotional support. It could also manifest as a desire
for romantic love, the “sweep you off your feet” kind of spectacle, especially
if your moon or Venus is in a Water sign.
Monday, March 28
“Air signs include Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra. They
are known for being inquisitive, non-judgmental, social, and easygoing. They
are well suited to academia, science, philosophy, and public speaking. They
connect best with a world they can dismantle and discover.”
Air signs are easygoing, but they can sometimes appear
flippant or flakey. It’s always good to have a mix of signs in your chart. Air
placements can bring levity to Water placements, and Fire placements can bring
spark and passion to Air placements. It’s good to look at how your placements
affect each other, as well as what they mean on their own.
Tuesday, March 29
“Earth signs include Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo. They
are known for being grounded, serious, hardworking, and stoic. They make strong
leaders, organizers, and can bring about change through their ambition.”
Earth signs are the sturdiest of the bunch. They make for
very practical leaders and partners. Too much Earth in a chart can make someone
a bit pedantic and strait-laced, but mixed with Air, Fire, or even Water, you
get the will to follow through on other intellectual, creative, or emotional
pursuits.
Wednesday, March 30
“Fixed sings include Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, and
Scorpio. The Fixed signs are, as the name implies, rather stubborn. They are
the signs that like things a particular way. They are less spontaneous and more
traditional than their elemental counterparts.”
Not all signs within an element are equal. Leo is very
different from Aries and Aquarius from Gemini. The fixed signs are more likely
to settle down, put down roots, and want to be partnered. Both Aquarius and Leo
are drawn to the world at large, but more than their elemental counterparts,
they want to feel secure. Both Taurus and Scorpio are the most grounded of
their elements–the most likely to be stuck in their ways.
Thursday, March 31
“The mutable signs are Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces,
and Virgo. They are the most flexible and resourceful of the signs, often good
at bridging gaps by connecting people. They are easygoing by nature, in
comparison with their elemental counterparts.”
Mutable signs are relaxed, they like to follow, make
connections, and keep the peace. While Virgo might be rigid in their ideas and
morals, they are willing to bend and adapt in most situations that aren’t
directly about themselves. Internal changes are another story for Earth signs
though. Gemini, Pisces, and Sagittarius are often seen as the most social
signs, flitting easily between groups and people, and adapting all the while.
Mutable signs can change their personality based on who they are with.
Friday, April 1
“Cardinal signs include Aries, Cancer, Libra, and
Capricorn. Cardinal signs are leaders, they are the signs that take initiative.
They are the most likely to follow through on their ideas and manifest their
own realities. They are more action-oriented than their elemental counterparts.”
Less rigid than the fixed signs, but less flexible than the
mutable, the Cardinal signs are best at putting out strong ideas, pointing
others in the right direction, and keeping everything on track. These are the
signs who are best at leading, driven by ambition, and have a clear head with
regards to their goals.
