Understanding Your Daily Focus
Recently, a family member went through a major surgery and I have been spending a lot of time with her. We mostly talk, and I’ve been enjoying her perspective on what life is supposed to be about and how to make the most out of what we have. Even with a lot of healing and recuperation ahead of her, she is staying positive and blowing the mind of her surgery team with how far she has come in such a short period of time.
Her enthusiasm for being open-minded, positive, and always looking at what tomorrow can be like if we are unafraid of what’s around the corner has truly encouraged and invigorated me. I hope that this week’s daily focus will do the same for all of you.

Keeping an open mind and learning new things will always change us, even if we don’t ultimately agree with what we have just been told or learned. Sometimes, viewing the big picture can make us freeze and feel as if we will never attain what we are striving for. Not everyone is going to be supportive and gung-ho about our ideas, and though we can understand this, it isn’t easy to get shot down right out of the gate. This is especially true when the people we can turn to help us to see where some challenges might be, but in a positive way. Leave the hurdles until further into the race! I have been gifted expensive gifts that I have loved, but the gifts that touched my heart the most were the ones that either my daughters or students would make for me. I still have many of these items scattered throughout my home as reminders that there is beauty in simplicity and that there is a profound love that comes from simple gifts given with a pure heart. It is so easy to tune people out because of how they have reacted to us in the past, even when the person in question may have valid points or insight that we could use to better our lives. I’m not saying that we need to allow negative people to talk at us non-stop, but perhaps we can try to keep one ear open so that we can hear the messages Spirit is trying to give us through all the people in our lives.
