I love finding reasons to make each day special. Sometimes it’s because I see flowers blooming in the backyard, or because a piece of mail that I’ve been eagerly awaiting finally found its way to my doorstep. Other times we need to look for reasons to turn a low-key day into something special, which is when we can look at lists of lesser known holidays that can make a day fun.
In this week’s daily focus, we are finding reasons to celebrate, get excited, and look forward to each day of the week.
May 9 – World Password Day

We are usually so busy with our lives that we don’t often think about the little, yet important things that we should attend to. One of those things might be updating our personal information with businesses that we deal with or changing our passwords. Keeping our lives as safe and tranquil as possible is always important. Take some time today to update your passwords and safety measures. Today’s word is Prepared.
May 10 – Mother’s Day and National Clean Your Room Day

This week we celebrate Mother’s Day in the US, but this year it falls on National Clean Your Room Day! What an amazing gift to moms everywhere. Just as we clean our physical homes of dust and debris, we should take inventory of our emotional, spiritual, and mental homes and determine what is good for us and what we have outgrown. This kind of cleaning can’t be done while we are in the middle of growth and transformative cycles though. We must to wait until we have learned the lessons we need so that we can be sure that we are getting rid of the right things. Where are you in your current cycle? Today’s word is Purge.
May 11 – Eat What You Want Day

This has been one of my favorite plays since I was a little girl, but it wasn’t until I got older that the full impact of this quote hit me. Life should be about taking a little bit of everything into our lives and sampling everything that it has to offer. Take that chance, go on that trip, start on a path, and then change your mind. You can always go back for seconds! Today’s word is Buffet.
May 12 – Free Cone Day

I don’t know about you, but I love my ice cream. There’s something about it that can turn an ordinary day, or even a bad one into something to smile about! The only thing about ice cream is that if you try to take your time and savor it, it melts away and leaves you with a puddle of what could have been. Life is just like that; we spend so much time trying to hold onto a moment that we miss all the other wonderful moments that are happening around us. There is nothing wrong with savoring the day, just remember that tomorrow has as much in store for you. Today’s word is Relish.
May 13 – Apple Pie Day
“Good apple pies are a considerable part of our domestic happiness.” –Jane Austen
I honestly would have thought that this would fall later in the year, closer to harvest time, but perhaps it is a pleasant reminder that we can harvest positivity at any point in time. We can choose to focus on the small things that fall from the tree and settle for less or we can set our sights high and obtain something that enhances our lives to their full potential. Today’s word is Pluck.
May 14 – National Chicken Dance Day
“Mix a little foolishness with your serious plans. It is lovely to be silly at the right moment.” –Horace
This is one dance that makes even the most stoic people forget about being serious and just enjoy themselves. As we get older, we stop being silly and goofy and worry too much about how other people will view us if we let loose. I have to admit this was me until recently, when I realized that I was missing out on so much happiness because I was stuck on being professional, serious, and in control. We just need to remember that balance is key and enjoy both sides of who we are. Today’s word is Dance.
May 15 – National Day of Families

Family can be anything we want it to be. Friends, relatives, our animals, you name it. Sometimes we have friends that become surrogate siblings because we feel so close, and by extension their families become our families. There is no definition that can truly sum up what family is, so create your own definition and know how lucky you are to all have each other! Today’s word is Unity.
