Tonight at sundown marks the beginning of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. The holiday is celebrated over a period of eight days in which Jewish families light the candles of the Menorah – one the first night, two the second and so on. Traditional food and blessings are highlighted to celebrate the triumphs of ancient Jewish heroes. The word Hanukkah means “consecration” or “dedication” and commemorates a miracle in which a supply of oil used to re-dedicate the Temple in Jerusalem that was only supposed to last a day, lasted for 8 days!
