Facebook Stalking: Why Not To Do It

Facebook has created a great way to stay connected to friends and acquaintances, which is why the social network has become the top destination on the web. But despite the obvious advantages of Facebook, there’s a line users can cross regarding their time online if it is excessively spent on a few chosen people and their respective profile pages – otherwise referred to as Facebook stalking. At what point does casual curiosity turn into an obsessive-compulsive behavior that is unhealthy at the very least?

Common Hooks

There are many reasons people might stalk others online, the most common of which involve crushes and exes. In the crush scenario, you simply can’t get enough information on your sweetheart, and every update and new picture only serves to whet the appetite of your obsession. When it comes to exes, it’s all about making yourself more miserable as you follow the new lives they are living sans you. Every happy picture they post and every potential flirtatious comment from other people is a twist in the gut. Really, why do people do this to themselves?

Telltale Signs That You’ve Gone Over the Edge

There are certain signs that suggest you might want to consider checking yourself into Facebook rehab. Pay attention to the number of hours you’re logging in per day, along with how many of those hours are spent on other people’s pages. Checking a person’s page on the hour for every new update and post is definitely taking things too far. Knowing how someone has spent every moment of each day for the past week is certainly an indication that you’ve gone off the deep end.

Why it’s Time to Kick the Habit

So now that you’ve fessed up to your obsession, it’s time to kick it to the curb. While Facebook stalking may seem harmless enough, it can actually be damaging to everyone. It takes you away from living in the present moment and reduces your availability for a real relationship with another person better suited to you. In the worst case scenario, this obsessive online behavior could lead to stalking someone physically, which is a criminal act. Why waste your time focusing on someone who is simply not into you, or who isn’t a part of your life anymore? Move on to the people who want to be included in your life, instead of living off the scraps of another person’s experiences as displayed through their online persona, which, at best, is a shadow of the real thing.

ITS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME… FOCUS ON YOU INSTEAD OF WHOM EVER… IT IS VERY IMMATURE CHILDISH TO GO AROUND AND SNOOP ON YOUR BF OR GF.. IT GOES TO SHOW U HAVE NO SELF RESPECT FOR YOUR SELF.. IT GOES TO SHOW YOU WORRY ABOUT THEM MORE THAN YOURSELF .. I FEEL THE ONLY REASON WHY GUYS OR GIRLS HAVE THERE PARTNER AS A FRIEND IS TO CHECK ON THEM TO SEE IF THEY CAN GET MORE INFO… OR JUST SEE IF THEY CAN CATCH THERE PARTNER DOING SOMETHING SO THEY CAN START DRAMA OVER FB .. FACE BOOK AND RELATIONSHIPS DONT MIX.. WARNING TO WHOS OUT THERE WHO ARE FRIENDS WITH THERE PARTNERS DONT DO IT PLEASE.. IT MAT BE NOT THE BEST THING TO DO…DO EVEN HACK INTO SOMEONE ACCOUNT THAT IS A NO NO .. TRUST ME I LEARNED THE HARD WAY… I HAD TO SNAP MYSELF BACK INTO REALITY… I HAD TO PULL MY SELF BACK.. ITS NO POINT .. IT WASTING TIME.. TRUST WILL BE LOST.. EVEN IF YOU FEEL SOMETHING ISNT SITTING RIGHT GO TO YOUR PARTNER PERSONALLY ..DONT BRING NO DRAMA TO FB IT LEADS TO PROBLEMS … BE MATURE ABOUT A SITUATION… IT IS TOTURE TO READ YOUR EX OR PARTNER PAGE WHAT ARE U REALLY SEARCHING FOR ASK THEM GO TO THEM,,, DONT WASTE TIME SNOOPING AND OR HACKING …

I really like this article. But, in my case facebook was used to obtain the truth so that person could not lie about what they were doing anymore. I actually had to check several of their friends status pages and go back months to get the truth about a situation. The person could no longer lie to me after that point. The person was an ex but they were trying to tell me one thing but do another to get sympathy from me for their situation. I actually felt sorry for them until I saw the status updates on the facebook pages. In my case the information set me free from the lying from the person involved. It was crazy that even though we were no longer together they felt the need to keep up some type of pitty wagon. Apparently I am not the only person they have played this game on. The funny thing about it is someone else they were REALLY GOOD FRIENDS with was posting information about them without them even knowing until I asked about what was being posted by their so called FRIEND.

    HI,
    Excellent advice!!!!!

……I’ve seen folks that seem to love to torture themselves by reading their X’s page…..some folks even use it for vindictive and veangeful reasons…..to push another person’s button who just might be reading it.

This article is perfect and makes a whole lot of sense !

    Blessed Be )O(
