Contemplation, Not Resolutions
A new year always seems to be a time of contemplation, assessment and analysis. Where have you been? Where are you now? Where are you going? Where would you like to be? Do you reflect on your experiences (good, bad or indifferent)? What challenges did you face last year and what did you learn from them? Are you working towards a better self?

A Meaningful Quote
I have the most beautiful, wise quote hanging above my desk. It was written by the late Dr. Wayne Dyer and it reads: “True nobility is not about being better than anyone else. It’s about being better than you used to be.” I think that’s a perfect quote for a new year.
Shifting Perceptions
If you change your thoughts, actions and words, you bring about an incredible shift in your perception of how your life plays out on a day-to-day basis. I have made some amazing changes this way and these changes have given me a sense of peace and have helped me connect to myself, my loved ones and my clients better. I want to share with you how I did it.
Make a List
Recently, I sat down to write a list. This list was comprised of all the positive changes I will make in 2016. I chose to write my changes down in list form because lists help me stay focused, motivated and on purpose with positive intention. In creating this list, I considered how I react to others, their actions, their deeds and their words. It made me see that sometimes I don’t honor myself or others in the best way possible.
Stopping Negativity
In order to make positive changes, you, like me, have to face yourself head on. You have to understand how you elevate and intensify negative situations. My list is an attempt to preemptively stop the negativity before it happens.
I’d like to share my list with you:
- Try to cultivate more patience.
- Don’t take anything personally.
- Exercise a little more and eat healthier.
- Show and tell my family how much I love them (more frequently).
- Stop! Meditate and sit in silence daily for at least 15 minutes.
- Read one or two books each month.
- Stay free of negative media.
- Listen intently to the fears, concerns, joys and happiness of my loved ones.
- Be present and not feel guilty about the past. Don’t fear the future.
- Enjoy, appreciate and acknowledge everything I do that enables others to make better choices and take positive steps.
Does your list look like mine? What would you add? What would you change? I hope my list inspires you to make your own list for 2016.
These are not resolutions! This is something much deeper. I want you to contemplate your life. This is a healing and an awakening. It’s even therapeutic. Grant yourself deeper access to your thoughts and feelings.
I hope that 2016 is the year you walk only in the light. I hope the year brings you peace, comfort and joy. I hope your loved ones walk this journey with you and you try to be a little better than you used to be. May you find an everlasting sense of love in your life.
Many Blessings,

THANK YOU JAMES, INSPIRARING
James, awesome article, thanks for sharing your list! I LOVE that these are not resolutions! So easy to make them, easier yet to break them. A list is a helpful reminder, without the pressure of disappointing oneself.
I love the Wayne Dyer quote. He was an inspiring teacher, wasn’t he? I also have a Wayne Dyer quote on my wall above my Tarot desk. “Find your passion. A burning desire is what separates us from mediocrity.”. I really love that.
I will share a couple of things from my list. They are not new, they’ve been on my list for years!
1) To be a better person, in some way, some small self-improvement, by nighttime, than I was when I got up in the morning.
2) To help at least one person feel better about themselves, to make someone smile or laugh, at least once a day.
Small goals, but mine. <3
Blessings,
D
