Day in the Life: Psychic Rika

What does a typical day-off look like for you?

Whether I’m working or enjoying a day off, I’m always awake around 4:30 AM. I know it’s crazy, but it’s my natural clock, so I listen to it. I begin the day by catching up on the news and social media while I drink my coffee, before turning my focus to my daily Buddhist chanting.

Next on my list is leading my Mom, Stepdad, and my brother through morning Zoom yoga, followed by my favorite potatoes from a neighborhood restaurant for breakfast while I catch up on some personal study. Recently I’ve been studying works on Mediumship, Buddhism, science, as well as the works of Louise Hay and Wayne Dyer. I usually round out the morning with a reading for a private client, then some journaling.

As soon as the afternoon rolls around, I turn my phone off and devote myself to writing. I’ve been taking a few classes on scriptwriting for nearly a year now, and I’ve been collaborating with my mom on a few scripts. We’ve completed the writing on two of them, and we’re editing the second at the moment, which is based on the period of my life when I was a stand-up comic and storyteller!

Of course, I do give myself a little bit of relaxation at the end of a productive day off. Pizza and Netflix are my personal favorite combination for a Saturday night.

How do you clear your mind after being on the line all day?

After working my longer shifts I like to start by quieting my mind. I just like to let go and appreciate all of the people I’ve talked to and send out prayers that everyone had the courage and ability to win in their lives throughout the day.

I will then do something to space out like check out recipes online. Ever since stay-at-home orders began, I have started baking a bit, so I like looking up what to make next when the mood strikes me. Or I may watch a low-key show on TV to help my brain turn off. I have to admit, I love Family Feud.

Because I work late into the evening, however, I do go to bed within a couple of hours of getting off the phone.

What are the fun things that you like to do in your free time?

I love to paint pictures, especially spray paint pictures. I mostly only do it in the spring and summer so that the paint dries fast and doesn’t make my neighbors hate the smell. I cannot wait to have an art studio in the backyard of my own house. I also love to make homemade affirmations decks.

Back in the day I also liked going to movies in the afternoon; they were a great little hideaway. I can’t wait for the theaters to open again.

How does being a psychic effect your day-to-day life?

Well, I am psychic, it is my life, so it is always in effect. It is very likely that if you are in my path when I am out and about, a reading may happen for you. I don’t go looking for it, but if it happens easily and spontaneously, then it’s not rare for me to come back from an errand having been touched by angels.

Tell us an interesting story you think readers would like to learn about you.

Here is a story about being star-struck as a child. I was raised in a Buddhist organization, and we would travel all over for Peace Parades. I was part of the Buddhist marching band and played the fife. When I was 12, we got to go to Hawaii for a convention. When we got to the airport, however, our tickets were all messed up. The entire marching band performed a chant to help make the seating arrangements better than they had originally been. Clearly, it worked, because once the tickets were all sorted out, ten of us were put in first-class! We couldn’t believe it. I ended up next to Tom Selleck. (For those of you too young to remember, he was the famed star of Magnum P.I.) I asked for his autograph, but he said NO! The nerve! He didn’t want to give them to everyone apparently, so he shook my hand instead. I watched him drive away at the gate after we landed. When I got back home, everyone wanted a piece of my hand.

Have you helped a caller in a memorable way?

This is the absolute truth. After ten years, I have so many deeply fond memories of the people I have spoken with. I am sometimes so completely touched by the information that flows out from me to the caller. I share wholeheartedly in their pain and in their joys. So many people call and tell me about their victories. Sometimes, callers call just to report back to me. Those are some of my favorite calls. I want every single person to report a victory. It is critical to me that I help a caller knowing it will merge with reality so that the questions can change and advance. I can’t pick just one because I love every single call.
