Red Responds: Should She Reach Out to Them?

Is it possible for you to tell me if I should try to contact someone from my past? We both lived in the high desert area of Southern California and I was lucky enough to have him as my boyfriend back in 11th grade (1983). I think of him often ever since I broke it off with him. Over the years, I’ve wanted to contact him as he still lives in the same area but never have for one reason or another. I’ve always felt that he was the one for me but I blew it and, of course, he moved on. I’ve never given up on the thought that one day we’d run into each other almost the same way we met and maybe I’d get a second chance with Mr. Right. I’d appreciate any insight you can give me. I’ve held onto this fairytale for over 20 years and I’d like to know if I’m just fantasizing or if you see any chance that we could reconnect.

There are some people we meet that we never forget, never “get over,” and he is one of yours.

Even though I think it is wonderfully romantic that you have held onto this fairytale for 24 years, I have to tell you that now is not the time for you to break your silence. He is not coming through as available – emotionally or otherwise. I do see that you will reconnect with this man in this lifetime, but it is not through your efforts – nor is it any time soon. It will be years before you lay eyes on him, but you will run into him again.

Both of you have grown and changed a great deal since the 11^th grade, and there will be quite a bit for you two to catch up on. Let’s hope that I’m wrong, because I don’t see this as a second chance opportunity for romance, but more of an opportunity to reminisce about days gone by. It’s like a bittersweet answer to a well-worn prayer.

You may think that he is your Mr. Right, but the truth is, if he were – you wouldn’t have “blown it,” and he wouldn’t have moved on. Hold on to your fantasies, but live in reality. The most romantic chapter of your life lies in your future, not your past.
