I am so delighted that now we have a special place to gather our petals of wisdom together in this blog and share our memories of our youth, our spiritual journeys that led us to cross paths today, and welcoming in the true Dawn of the Age of Aquarius. Speaking of, can you believe we are upon the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock? Groovy! Far out!
The memories… (fade to daydreaming…sounds of legendary rock icons playing in the background, flower children dancing and spinning around like whirling dervishes for as far as the eye could see, overwhelming mystical scents of the 60’s and incense forming a humongous cloud overhead clashing against mother nature’s tempestuous force which I and many still believe was a man made attempt to disperse the crowd with thunderstorms of an intensity I’ve never seen before …or since.)
Woodstock Music & Art Fair – 3 Days of Peace & Love (August 15 – 17, 1969)
No one knew what to expect nor could anyone have ever imagined (on their wildest trip) what a life altering experience we were about to embark upon. We figured it was just another concert as we headed up to the Catskill Mountains “the country,” several hours north of New York City. I actually bought a ticket. I managed to hook up with a bunch of kids heading up there in a beat up van with no seats (crammed like sardines) on Thursday evening before the concert. We all spent that night crashing someone’s pad in Woodstock before heading out to Bethel, New York on Friday. So we were pretty early arriving…those getting a late start (or thinking they would just drive up after work) were out of luck… once the event started all the music acts and VIPS had to be helicoptered in and out as there was no way to get anywhere near the festival by vehicle. For some people (if they were lucky to get that close and not be turned back…the New York State Thruway was closed! ) and for many, it would be a 20 mile very muddy hike back to their car – if they ever found it again!
With only enough room to sit cross legged (the whole weekend) in our luxurious square foot of dirt (very soon to become hundreds of acres of mud) we started grooving to the music. I don’t know what my expectations were, but I actually brought a suitcase (duh!) thinking I would be changing outfits. Muddy jeans (if anything at all) were de rigeur. An acquaintance I came with actually “borrowed” a friend’s brand new kelly green suede jacket (ex-friend by the time she got home I’m sure). It was as if the kids were just cosmically programmed to show up – they just kept manifesting and multiplying. It was so surreal to feel part of this huge community of 500,000 like minded souls – a true tribal gathering. And the music – iconic! Some bands (having to wait it out between thunderstorms) would suddenly awaken the crowd at 3 and 4 am, getting them on their feet and rocking out from a dead sleep. I encourage you to check out the list of performers over those 3 days. Phenomenal influences of most people’s lives at the time.
Imagine! 500,000 kids left on their own only to discover the words sharing, helping, consideration, and respect to be very powerful. Thousands left the Woodstock event with a totally different outlook on life. The festival began with Sri Swami Satchidananda addressing the crowd of 1/2 million. What a way to wake up (literally). It probably helped to plant the seed for me to very shortly thereafter embark upon my teacher training studies with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The energies we were introduced to would have a life long effect on most of us.
I do encourage as many of you to visit this blog, again and again. It is my hope that it will serve as a barometer of your growth and validation that the “long and winding road” will indeed “lead you to your door.”
Live with mindfulness, grace and compassion!

think you. i was at wood stock. in my young day. s that was fun. were you there?
Gina or Lynn would be a good name. Not together. Hate to break it to you but for some pploee who are old enough to remember Gina Lynn is a famous 1980 s pornstar. I would say guys in their mid 30 s or later will recognize that name as a pornstar. People under 20 will most likely not.
I was born Aug. 15, 1969 and despite my very consevative upbringing (or maybe because of it) I am intuned with the Universal Consciensness, and am a practicing Zen Buddhist. I think maybe I was a hippie born a little late.

Hi Lynn-
I really enjoyed this post. It is so interesting to read what everyone wrote on here. I agree, this was such a special time in history. I was born in the summer of love, the summer of 69.
I agree that you were so lucky to have lived this experience. I envy you. peace!
Thank you for sharing.
Hugs and blessings,
Miss Krystal
Back to the Garden, Does anyone have plans to see the new “Taking Woodstock” movie…? dir. by Ang Lee…it is about the inception of the Festival and what it took to get it moving…I think very inspiring for today’s generation. should be a hit for the summer, does anyone think it will influence this generation?

Hey Gina!
I must be in a fog, but even though I had read the song lyrics you posted by the Youngbloods the other day, when I said that I was thinking of a song…I honestly did not realize that it was THAT song!! How stupid is that???
It was almost as if they were jumping into my head, screaming, “Hey, stupid…do you get it yet???”
Okay…I get it!
Tell them “thanks” for me!
Love ya,
Fran
(Peace out!)
Hi Gina,
Oh, believe me…I DO have faith in your Guides, and in YOU!!! Why else do
you think I keep bugging you?? Because you’re funny?? Hahahahaha! Just
kidding. You ARE funny. You know you crack me up. I think THAT’S why I
really call you all the time! LOL!!!
I am definitely hanging in there. I’ve got too much invested in this to let
it go. Besides, I can’t wait to write that testimonial you and I have BOTH
been waiting for! I am SO looking forward to that!
Love ya,

Hi Fran,

I meant to say that I was watching that show last night.
Hi! I thought about you last night —
I was watching “Millionaire” and the celebrity guest contestant was Wynonna Judd. When I saw her red hair, I instantly thought of you…well, for that reason and for the obvious reason!
On that note, remember when your Guides said things had accelerated? What did they mean by that? Because it looks like I’ve still got to wait, at least as I’ve been told, until Fall. And it’s been going VERY slowly, with hardly any communication. 🙁
Just a side note…earlier in the day I had asked for a sign, then I saw the show. Any correlation maybe?
This song just popped into my head as I was writing this …
“Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now. Right now.”
Another sign maybe? Or just my subconscious telling me to take a mud bath?? LOL!
Peace,
Fran
Hi Fran,
Mud is great for the complexion !!!!!!! Yes…I remember Crystal Blue persuasion…almost too well….like yesterday. LOL
Thinking of you……Blessed Be )O(…gina Rose ext.9500
Gina
Hi Gina Rose,
Do you remember the song “Crystal Blue Persuasion?” What a great song. I’ve got it on iTunes, put it on a CD, and listen to it in the car all the time.
Flowers on my face? Sure!! I love to paint, anyway! But I’ll play in the mud only if it has any miraculous properties…like melting away unwanted pounds! If that were the case, PLEASE…where’s the MUD!!
haha…
Keep on groovin’
Fran
Hi Fran,
Yes it counts…..you are now an honorary flower child !!!!
But….. now you must paint flowers on your face and go play in the mud…..( only kidding ).
LOL……
Peace…Gina Rose ext.9500
Gina
Gina Rose, you crack me up! I’ve been sitting hear smiling reading all of your comments. And loved the song lyrics.
Hey, I was born in the 60’s, does that count? (I like the music…)
Love & Peace,
Fran
Hi Pam,
Well Thank You, Pam

Your sister-in-law, Lucy, sounds like she was a true ” flower child “….and a fun person as well.
Peace, Groovy, Far-Out, Cosmic and

Hi Lynn,
From the Youngbloods…..one of my favorite songs from that time era :
I love the lyrics to this song !!!!!
Love is but the song we sing,
And fear’s the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Know the dove is on the wing
And you need not know why
C’mon people now,
Smile on your brother
Ev’rybody get together
Try and love one another right now
Some will come and some will go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moments sunlight
Fading in the grass
C’mon people now,
Smile on your brother
Ev’rybody get together
Try and love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing,
You must understand
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It’s there at your command
C’mon people now,
Smile on your brother
Ev’rybody get together
Try and love one another right now
Right now
Right now!
Good afternoon everyone,
Up here in the Pacific North West (B.C. Canada) 104.9 fm is playing nothing but the music from the era for the next 3 days, celebrating the music the times, stars and the people. Mind you this station plays nothing but all the oldies. The radio also gave these stastics for the 3 days and they were 2 deaths, 3 miscarriages and 2 babies born during that weekend now known in history as Woodstock. Gina’s remark about Bruce Sprinsteins voice is true. Didn’t Mary Anne Faithful come from that time as well? Believe it or not I had a sister-in-law Lucy and until she died in the early 90’s she still drove her VW “flower power” bus flower’s and all.
Enjoy your memories.
Pam
Hi Lynn,
Just sitting here thinking…..don’t you think that Bruce Springsteen’s voice is very similiar to what Joe Cocker’s singing voice was back then ??????
Hope you are enjoying a walk down memory lane today ….as I am.
Blessed Be )O(…Gina Rose ext.9500
Hi Lynn,
Still going thru albums from that time period….going to play some albums today being being the anniversary date.
( The Moody Blues was not at the festival….)…but Joe Cocker was…CCR was….. Canned Heat was and SANTANA was, to name but a few. LOVE MY SANTANA ALBUMS!
I have so much music from that time era.
You’re right…..it DID look like a Pagan celebration. With flowers painted on our bodies, faces…flowers in our hair….( soon to be replaced by MUD )!
I would love to go back to visit the new art center there someday…..
I can’t believe it was 40 years ago….doesn’t seem like it was that long ago.
Blessed Be )O( Gina Rose ext.9500
Hi,
At the festival…..I remember that it was all about unity….we were a sum of ONE. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Race, Religion/Spiritual Belief, Age…..none of that mattered. There was NO FEAR….everybody embraced everybody for who they were.
We might have been called “hippies”, ” long-haired freaks” and even bums back then……but it sure did, and does, beat the violence, aggression, and hate & fear of today’s culture.
One of my favorite songs back then was by Sly & The Family Stone called
” Everyday People”.
I’m going thru my Moody Blues albums right now….I own every single album the Moody Blues ever recorded, all still in the original album covers and some with old concert sheets. AND THEY STILL PLAY WITH NO SCRATCHES !!!!!
PEACE !!!!!

Hi Jacqueline and Gina Rose…
It Was a very magical time in history. I feel so blessed to have been born when I was. Wherever you went, you were always welcomed and to quote CSN&Y “everywhere was song and celebration” During the Sgt. Pepper days we would buy our clothes at costume shops in NYC. Central Park on the weekends looked and felt like a technicolor pagan celebration filled with free spirits and flower children. Wonderful seeds to grow a life on

I truly do hope that all can be remembered from the events going on at that time,
I agree with you about consciousness can and will be raised as a generation, so many want this to happen and then therfore it will….
Blessings,

And don’t forget our denim jackets we used to put the big piece sign on the back with our rine stone and studs….
Tie die our shirts, long hair flowing in the wind boy we turned heads….

Hi Lynn….
Oh… I wish I was there I can only imagine the fantastic energy flowing, Love it!!!!
I’m so excited about this new world of Aquarius we are entering into, higher vibrational thoughts, psychic gifts on all levels will be magnified beyond imagine, manifesting will come from pureness in heart, we as a planet will become so much more healthier, emotionally spiritually and physically.
It will be as if there will be 2 worlds simultaneously evolving at the same time….
Blessings Lynn love your article!
Jacqueline x9472
wow im sure it was a great event i know if i were born i would have been there too by the way you describe it it sounds like it was much fun
Beautiful Lynn,
What a great blog! I was a little “short in the britches” to be at the Woodstock gathering, but I was right behind it. I was always so envious of everyone who was there!
I love what you wrote about the flower children “blooming”…lovely visual! (But I would expect nothing less from you! 😉
As I continue to paint my wonderful VW van, The Amazing Grace, with flowers, mushrooms and scenes from The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, I am continually blessed with the smiles I see from people who are so happy to know that this kind of spirit is still alive and well. (The Amazing Grace even has a sign on the driver’s side door that reads “Hello, Officer!” I keep a large bottle of bubbles, complete with wands, so I can blow millions of bubbles out the windows when I come to a stop light!I love to hear kids laughing and see people immediately smiling. She even has a loveseat in the back instead of a bench…she is a true Love Machine! LOL!)
The dreams and ideals of Woodstock aren’t that far away from today. Many of us are still here keeping the dreams alive. Barry McGuire just moved here to Port Townsend and he said that in such a beautiful place its impossible not to see the real effect of the ’60s movement.
I recently handed down my copy of “Steal this Book” by the late great Abbie Hoffman to a young man who is carrying on the torch. Every gathering of the Rainbow Family tells you that Woodstock is still alive and well…even in a world edging ever closer to “1984”.
Thank you, Lynn…and thank you, dear Gina Rose. I am envious of you both and very proud to be a friend of you both.
Many beautiful rainbow filled blessings,
Jesse 9027
Wow Lynn! thank you for sharing that experience. I have a friend that was there also, as part of the Earthlight Theatre troupe that actually were onstage with the swami Satchidananda for his blessing…you both possibly could have passed each other, or passed something to each other…I do hope today’s generation can still learn something from that summer in 1969. I have learned that consciousness can be raised by a generation being on the same page.
Hi…..
Myself and two friends hitchhiked there, all the way from Chicago…..my favorite artist Jimi Hendrix was there…..Then I returned home I was grounded for months….but it was worth it !!!!!!
LOL !!!!!
